I think I'll try the buddy with a prybar method. My origional idea was to do the screw driver but it broke a soon as I tried to break the crankbolt loose.

A very thick screw driver will work, or pry bar. Easiest way to do this is pop open the peek hole, get the prying tool of your choice, stick it in one of the holes in the flexplate, slowly turn the crank bolt, let the tool it pry itself against the trans housing until it's sitting in place, and then yank away on the bolt.
Done that for years and works fine. I'm too much of a cheap *** to buy the "flywheel holding tool". My pry bars work just fine and they're already paid for

Ghetto? Have a buddy hold the breaker bar, you turn the key. Make sure it has room to swing before it hits something, otherwise the car won't start and you won't have enough torque to break it loose.

craftsman makes an adjustable prybar, Also remember there are tapped holes in the back of the cylinder heads that you can slightly thread a bolt into to hold the prybar/screwdriver/ghetto tool in place while you remove the bolt
