Default Able to switch between HPTuners and EFI Live on tune without issue?

Sorry for the simple question, but say if I tuned in HPTuners originally could I go back and retune using EFI Live without issues? I could not locate a clear answer as to whether the two softwares use propriatary file formats.

This may mean I buy the same software the car was originally tuned with or buy the one that seems to be a little more user friendly.

It was just posted in the MY PCM is locked thread as long as they didn't load a COS (Custom Operating System) on the PCM you can retune it with either product

Thanks for the response. It wouldn't be typical practice to load a custom OS for a cammed / intake only car would it?

It's possible. I've run into a few. I've also used HPT custom OSs for the real time tuning. Real slick.........

I've also had to use EFIlive COS for a PCM swap Vette. So, it's hard to say.

If it's running pure speed density and using the high octane tables, then it might very well be a custom or enhanced os...but you'll know right away when you try to read the PCM with the other software.

What i've learned from Ed is that the other program will down load the operating system as long as it isn't locked, but will not open it, if it is a COS (Custom Operating System)

IF software is using a custom os, it will only be Cross locked from another software.

Meaning efilive can open efilive custom os,
and hp can open hp ..

If they are using a custom os, you must go back to stock to change brands.

There is no way to over write it with the other brand if they are using a custom os. Unless you know the Key, and as far as i know, only efilive allows you to put in your own key.

I just over wrote an EFIlive custom OS with HPT last week. I just did a write entire with a stock file.

Also, tunercat is real good for that too. It could care less what's in it. It'll write whatever you want to them. Going back to stock that is.

Yeah...I need to pickup a used copy of OBD2 Tunercat...I have no need for a roadrunner (which would let me buy OBD2 TC new).
