As stated, being an LS1, it's basically the same. The engine does not come out. The radiator and fan assembly does come out. The rest is just moved out of the way.
The first time I did this to my GTO, it took about 10 hours. I suck at working on cars so many people can do it faster.
EDIT: There is a write up on LS1GTO. The f-body one will work though. It's really no different.

I have never swapped cams in an F-Body, so I cannot compare the two. You do have plenty of room in the GTO though. You will be fine!
