Default 02 Exhaust Manifold Mod:

Is there any reason why I can't remove this "horn" from the manifold in order to clean these up a bit more? Would that take away from the flow of these manifolds or decrease their integrity?

I would fill in the void and grind the weld flush.

Again, these are 2002 LS1 Manifolds.

you are going through a lot of trouble to clean those things up, your halfway through the install of some headers lol you should order some and install them.

These are on a Mazda Rx-7 and I'm not paying $900 for a 10hp gain on a custom set of longtubes.

My exhaust currently flows very well and I'd like to clean these up a bit more before sending them off to Jet Hot.

headers and an ORY will gain you more than 10hp, more like 20-30 dpeding on the rest of the exhaust setup (cutout or catback)

i doubt you will get ANY gain from that at all.

I wish I could get my question answered. I'm not interested in debating headers against these manifolds.

That's where the EGR bung goes, on the 2000
model.

I don't think it costs you anything much, but
would expect that a weld of the size needed
to get it flat might be a problem against cast
iron. But then the only problem would be an
exhaust leak the size of the crack, so why not?
I've welded sensor bungs into iron logs before
and gotten no problems, but it was on motors
that didn't put out anywhere near the heat /
power.

Since it's a custom swap, have you looked at
other manifold options like truck and 'vette?
Maybe one of those is EGR-less in some year's
casting (not just a drill-n-tap delete).

There are also block-hugger shorty headers
out there for swaps, now (seen 'em in the
Summit paper cstalog).

I don't see why not...FYI, you could probably pick up some used mac mid-lengths dirt cheap, they will perform almost as well as LTs and save you the time and trouble of grinding/welding on stock manifolds.

did you grind down and smooth down the bumps inside the chamber just leaving the combustion chamber? that will relieve some backpressure if you want the stockers to flow a little better while your cleaning them up.
