So both me and my buddy are in the progress of swapping trans in both of our cars. He has a 400 and i have a 350. Word is the trans will only bolt up with only 2 bolts and just the guide pins. The shop said everyone that does this swap replaces the bellhousing by cutting off the old on with a cut-off wheel and the new one bolts on with the pump bolts. Is this right? I never seen a thread about this at all.

You can use 5 of the 6 bolts around the bellhousing on a TH350. I would imagine the 400 is the same way.

if your dealing with an LS engine, and you have a chevy 350 or 400, you will have 5 bolts to use, the 2 o clock hole is not drilled-now the shop might think your using a BOP trans, he may be correct-there are aftermarket blow shields that take the place of your bellhousing area, its cut off and the new bolts to the pump
so the question is, what kind of trans do you have, chevy or BOP-they sell thin adapters that will bolt the BOP to the chevy/LS bolt pattern
post a pic of your trans and i can tell what you have

Most people use 5 bolts. You can get the thick aluminum dust cover off a truck, something with like a '03 4.8/4L80E, this cover will bolt to a 4x4 th400 or you can drill the holes out for a 4x2 th400, then you can bolt the cover to the trans with six bolts and bolt the cover to the engine with two, and end up with a th400 bolted to an LS1 with 7 bolts.

There is a company that sells cast aluminum LS1 bellhousings to use if you cut the original one off. Regular cast aluminum, nothing special like the steel SFI ones. Or the thick expensive billet aluminum ones.

You use 5 of the 6 bolts. Also check clearance on the top of the bell and make sure you don't hit any bolts on the back of the block.

It's not that shithole CP trans place on the corner of 111th and Harlem is it? That's where he had the notch's trans done and the thing broke twice in the first 3 months I had it.

no, not that place. I wont mention names but its a place down south in the new lenox area, something about going in a straighline or something like that, or a curveline, lol.

I know this is a late post to this thread, but I am being confused on this topic. I have a LQ4 6.0L and a 700r4 tans. The guy I bought it from didn't install a dust cover and the flexplate is exposed. I have heard it is okay to have it exposed, but I just don't like the look, so I need a dust cover for it. Some tell me any TH350/TH400/700R4 dust cover will work, some say any 4L60E/4L80E cover will work. Can anyone give me a for sure straight answer and where to get one with part numbers? Thank you all so much.
