Default shortblock assembly

i have a ls1 that i tore apart and but forged pistons and new rods and bearings. I can put it together myself but i was going to take it to a speed shop in st.louis to have them do it so they can balance and degree the cam. my question is does it need to be balanced and degreed i know alot of ppl that just put it together there self.

I would want it ballanced and degreed. Also have them line hone the main bearins and cylinders.

they want like 250 for assembly and 250 to degree and balance it could i assemble it and them take it up there to have them do the rest

i would rather just assemble it then have them do the balancing and degree if thats possible

you cannot balance a rotating assy inside the engine. The machine shop will need the pistons, rods, bolts, pin, locks, bearings, rings and crank. Then they balance, then you can put it in.

LOL, ya take your whole rotating assembly to the machine shop. This includes crank, pistons, rods, flywheel, etc. Everything included in the bottom end. Once its balanced it will be written on top of each piston which cylinder it goes in. Its not hard to assemble the engine. Just keep everything really clean and lube everything well.

I think you're tossing around terminology you don't fully understand. You said "balance and degree the cam" - the cam doesn't get balanced.

IMO, bring them all the parts, let them clean up the engine, balance the rotating assembly, install everything, and degree the cam for you.

i know the cam dont get balanced i was saying i want my motor balanced and degree the cam my bad if i didnt come out correctly.

yeah thats prooly what i will do so i dont have to deal with it and i know its all done 100% correctly

Don't they need the balancer too?

+1 for keeping everything lubed and CLEAN

Nope the balancer was not needed for mine to be balanced.
