Default grinding sound after cam swap

Last year when i did my cam swap everything was good. Then about december there was a grinding sound coming from the water pump area.I parke the casr for the winter and today after putting the new pump on the grinding is still there..
Any ideas as to what the hell is up i put a new timing chain on when the camswap was done, could it be bolts backing out in the timing area
need help!!!!

Water pump gears some times go for a Sh*t after a new install. I read about it when I was researching my cam swap. JMTCW.

Could be what 95zsean said, or it could be the cam gear backing off?
If the grinding is pretty loud, then I'd take the water pump off and start the car for a few seconds to see if it still does it. If still grinds then I'd go on and take the front cover off.

Maybe your Opti spark is going bad, and the rotor is grinding on the distributor cap.

No reason to guess. Take the timing cover off and examine.

Wow, you just missed catostrophic failure! Count your lucky stars that the chain didn't break or come off completely.

I have my 94 timing cover if your interested. It's been sandblasted and completely clean. I have a left over crank seal and waterpump seal from my felpro gasket set (not installed). You would just need to buy the one seal for the optispark.

Won't work for 94 cars. That is, if he didn't convert to a vented optispark.

well I did a cam swap a while back and had a similar problem. however, I ended up with metal shavings on the drain plug. I assumed it was bearing failure and the car has been parked waiting for the funds to build a forged 355. If you guys think that something might have caused this besides bearings then maybe ill start digging around again.

The only problem I had besides the OP is I had low oil pressure after the engine was warm.

Well its common during cam swaps for cam bearings to be damaged I your not carefullm its always best to take the motor out for accessability. A bad bearing will cause both low oil pressure and metal on the plug. You should cut open the filter and see if you see any bronze colored material, if so then yes its prolly a bearing. Also if you see any other metal in the filter than it is possible that something else went loose and caused damage to the bearings and oil system, often times if somebody uses a dual roller timing chain then the cover needs to be clearanced so it doesn't rub.

Holy Sh*t I just realized your from peoria, I grew up in Pekin. Anyway make sure you flush the oil system out good, check to make sure there is no metal in the filter and good oil pressure. Also, Iv'e had two motors go out due to bearings etc. and now I use a prefilter (wire mesh) a K&N filter (a bit pricey) and a filter magnet. It's a bit of money to spend but not nearly as much as building a new motor.
