I don't have the part number handy but I'm pretty sure 99.9% of guys run head bolts including myself. It's all you really need plus it would pretty much eliminate the possibility of taking the heads off while the motor is in the car if you ever have to with head studs. It may be able to be done I'm not sure but I can't imagine it would be worth it.

Bolts are fine for NA buildups. If you are planning nitrous or forced induction, then studs provide more consistent clamping forces. Can mean the difference between blowing a headgasket or not if you run into a situation where you end up detonating.

Also, you can remove the heads while in the car just fine with studs. You just need to remove the top 4 studs on each head before the heads will clear... Not hard at all...

I've wondered this myself and I've seen some say that studs will leak.

I think it was Tony Shepherd on another site commenting on someones build.

Why is this

I have studs, want them for peace of mind on spray. I've heard most of the leaking problems were from the studs not being seated in the block, or using the shitty ARP thread sealant. Heard teflon tape and silicone are winners for sealing, but pieces could break off and clog up the cooling system.

also leaks can be caused by installing the studs in the block, and not bolting on the heads before the sealant cures.

All Studs, never had a leak problem, use Aircraft grade sealer...Gave some to Tony one time, stopped his leaks too!

My builder stated they only use bolts in their engines due to studs being more prone to forcing core shift so I am using bolts except for the main caps. Block wasn't in their possession at the time they were fitted.
They have one of the best reputations along the east coast so who am I to argue.

If the engine is already machined you need to ask the machinist what it was torque plate honed with.
