Anybody considered the gen II K&N FIPK for LS1's as a conversion alternative?

I justsaw it last night as I was looking through my new GMHTP. It looks like a real neat kit, alil pricey tho. Anyway, does anybody think it would be a better alternative to the LS1 lid conversion?

You know what, I have that K&N FIPK on my '99 SS. I could do a little experiment and swap it onto my '97 SS and see if I feel anything SOTP over my stock SS K&N intake.

We recently installed the same setup on BADHAWKS Firehawk, but no track results yet.

I think it will work well over his stock ram air box since he has an upgraded hood and the filter sits right in the path of good air now.

You think that set up will work on a stock camaro hood?

I have this on my car with the SLP Ultra-Z hood. Did this mod a little while back. Made a nice SOTP difference over a CAI.

I've been wondering this as well, now that I have my LT1. With several people putting the LS lids on LT's, this should work with a little fab work, just the same?

This kit also comes with a very low upper radiator cover. It gives way more space to the top side. You should be able to squeeze it in under a stock hood.

I wish I had a car with a stock hood to test, but we don't. I do agree it sits pretty low and would most likely fit.

So even if it did fit under the hood it really wouldn't be able to draw in fresh cool air without some sort of opening in the hood. Doesn't the ls1 cars have some sort of sheet metal piece that deflects the air up into those lids and those open filter type cai like pictured? I may be wrong but having the filter crammed under the hood there with no air souce seems silly to me! If it does work, sign me up! I'm in need of a good cai for mine.

I have been wondering this also, but it looks to me like the bottom of the filter would draw in cold air, while the top draws in hot engine air

If it fits under a stock hood easier, and comes with a new radiator support that also fits, it might be worth it

Maybe there's a way to cut out an area for cold air from underneath? Similar to cutting out the bottom of the LS1 air box... Would work great on a ram air T/A though!

Looks like a great set up if it can really pull in fresh air. Would only do me good though If it can fit under the stock hood. Also, I seen it mentioned but where would you get a coupler for the throttle body? I don't think anyone said anything about that.

I bought this kit and tried to fit it under my stock hood before I built my current CAI setup. It will not fit under a stock camaro hood.

why dont you just do the lid set up, the amount you will spend on a cai you can have this done with plenty cash left over for gas and lunch! performance is much better http://www.lt1engine.com/tech/ls1-li...k-camaro-hood/
i will say this mod was much better than the Moroso Cai 2 tenths and 1.8 mph better.

That is a SLP option. It's part of their cold air induction package which includes the SLP lid, smooth bellows, and the sheet metal diverter thing.

Good to know. I've see someone use a similar intake, like the Corvette style K&N and it fit after readjusting the radiator to slant more. Ran the tube over the radiator and under the rad support and the filter sits right in front of the radiator.

I might look into this. Wonder how much improvement it would be over my SS intake set up.

Just in case anyone is curious, after the K&N FIPK wouldn't work, here's what I ended up building....It's been powdercoated since this pic was taken, looks much nicer now. I'll get more pics once there's an engine in my car again.
