Anybody considered the gen II K&N FIPK for LS1's as a conversion alternative?

I justsaw it last night as I was looking through my new GMHTP. It looks like a real neat kit, alil pricey tho. Anyway, does anybody think it would be a better alternative to the LS1 lid conversion?

We recently installed the same setup on BADHAWKS Firehawk, but no track results yet.
I think it will work well over his stock ram air box since he has an upgraded hood and the filter sits right in the path of good air now.

So even if it did fit under the hood it really wouldn't be able to draw in fresh cool air without some sort of opening in the hood. Doesn't the ls1 cars have some sort of sheet metal piece that deflects the air up into those lids and those open filter type cai like pictured? I may be wrong but having the filter crammed under the hood there with no air souce seems silly to me! If it does work, sign me up! I'm in need of a good cai for mine.

I have been wondering this also, but it looks to me like the bottom of the filter would draw in cold air, while the top draws in hot engine air
If it fits under a stock hood easier, and comes with a new radiator support that also fits, it might be worth it

why dont you just do the lid set up, the amount you will spend on a cai you can have this done with plenty cash left over for gas and lunch! performance is much better http://www.lt1engine.com/tech/ls1-li...k-camaro-hood/

Just in case anyone is curious, after the K&N FIPK wouldn't work, here's what I ended up building....It's been powdercoated since this pic was taken, looks much nicer now. I'll get more pics once there's an engine in my car again.
