Default Shifter Rattling

Installed a short shifter out of a 2000 camaro in my T/A a while back. Noticed that at high rpms (about 4k and above) that the shifter rattles and vibrates way more than it should. The stock one never did this. Any ideas what this could be or if I'm doing my transmission/linkage any harm? Thanks for any help.

Mine does this too. I think it is just the rounded part of the shifter where it engages in the cup on the top of the transmission. I don't think it hurts anything, but it bothers me too something fierce

I have the hurst short throw, and it doesn't move at all. I also have solid motor mounts and a poly tranny mount. But when I traded out my shifter, there wasn't a plastic shifter cup like it stated in the directions. So I figure it is just the ball end rattling minutely in the shifter cup at high rpm. Very metal to metal like.

There's a plastic cup inside the shifter sadle. Overtime some of them can wear or break. I had the same problem when I installed my hurst, so I pulled it and installed a brass shifter cup which fixed it.

I just put a speed inc short stick on mine and it did that. I just tightened the bolts on it more and it quit.

Thats exactly what I'm talking about. Sorry to highjack the thread. Mine didn't have one and I traded my hurst in at about 10000 miles. It now has about 50k on it.

So everyone pretty much agrees it's not going to damage the transmission, right? Thanks for all the input.

I don't think it will damage anything, i just think it is annoying as hell. Yeah what's up with brass cup and where do you get it, or a plastic one?
