Default winding out the ls6 cam

Hey guys, been doing a lot of research on this cam the last few months because it seems like great bang for the buck and would be good for the spray i'm planning down the line. I saw in the thread with the dyno that a lot of people suggested winding the cam out to around 6800 rpms or so before shifting (I drive a m6). I didn't see, however, whether or not you all are using the ls6 springs to accomplish this or if you went to something stronger like the 918s to get this done. Also, would hardened pushrods be a must at high rpms like this?

I don't mind winding up the car at all since I have 4.10s, and with the eventual spray I think i'll get up in the power band extremely quick with this cam still . I do however want to prevent my engine from !

I wouldn't go over 65 or 6600 with a stock bottom end. use the Ls-6 springs.

My LS6 cam combined with full boltons and a LS1 Edit tune netted me 376 rwhp and it peaked at 6200 rpms then held flat till 6500 rpms. After 6500 it dropped off pretty fast. I shifted at 6500 rpms and really don't see any benefit of shifting at 6800 rpms as your are not making power but losing it while adding more wear and tear on your motor by reving to a higher rpm. I used 02 LS6 valvesprings and kept my stock pushrods.

sounds good, looks like i'll plan on shifting at 6500 with a 6600 redline then once I do the swap. If the cam kicks on mostly around 3-4 grand, I should still stay in the power band shifting at 6500 correct?

Shift at 6500 with redline at 6600 is exactly how my setup was geared. If your still on stock manifolds you will start making power over the stock cam around 4000 rpms. With LTs and ORY I started making power over stock at 2500 where the dyno started however it was minimal until 4000 rpms where the LS6 cam comes alive. Your 4.10s and M6 should compliment the LS6 cam very nicely. Most underestimate the LS6 cam but when setup right it pulls like a freight train in the upper rpms! HTH

Thanks for the info, I should have a set of pacesetters on either before the cam or shortly after so that will help greatly. I love these 4.10s and I think a cam like the ls6 that I can run up higher in the rpms will actually be better for the spray with them instead of something i'd have to shift like a raped ape!

This cam and some pacesetters should be a great combo with the spray. Between that and my electric cutout i'll have the car not only sounding stock, but also driving relatively stock (minus the 4.10s) since the cam comes on later in the power band. Sounds like a winning sleeper combo to me...as much of a sleeper as a mean black t/a can be at least
