Directional Tire Question:
I have the directional tread...previous owner for some reason has the front two going the correct way, but the rear two going opposite of what it should.
If I have them rotated and all put the correct way, will it be unbalanced or have bad vibration? Is there any harm in keeping them this way? Size is 245/50/r16.

as long as they are still balanced you will be fine just cross the rears to the front and move the fronts back. The reason they are like that is because someone rotated them as if they were non-directional tires. The only way you can rotate directional tires is from front to rear straight back or have them remounted.

I live next door to guy who just did a deposition for a case against Pep boys because some guy claimed his bf goodrich tires were directional and Pep put them on the wrong way so he lost control in the rain hit someone else head on. Pep boys hired Tom Petty (or one famous of the big name drivers) and paid him a over 100 g's to test the tire and give his expert opinion. Turns out unless your going 150mph in the rain, it makes no difference. It's ironic but it's just a marketing scam to get you to spend the extra money.

I'm talking about more from a noise standpoint, but I think it depends on the tire. I had mine rotated once and they cross rotated all four and I drove it off the lot, and as soon as I got up to about 45 they were howling like crazy. I didn't really notice a different feel, but I could hear it.
Also, what I mean from a wear standpoint is if the tire is meant to spin one direction and take loads in that direction, I would think reversing that could make the tire wear unevenly, i.e. feathering, etc

This is a true story.... I went to my doctor's office last summer for a checkup. I noticed a Ford Escost in the parking lot, because it was really cleaned up and waxed to perfection. However, as I glanced down at the wheels, I noticed thatthe car had fairly new Goodyears on it, and they were directional, and on the car incorrectly...
So I finish up with the doctor, and since I'm his last appointment of the day, he, his nurse, and I, all walk out the door together. The nurse, a very nice lady, probably mid 60s, walks toward the Escort. I point out to her that her tires on incorrectly. She says, "You know, I've been telling my husband that ever since he had the tires replaced a few months ago, the can felt funny in the rain"......
I HIGHLY doubt that either she, OR the Escort, ever went 150 MPH!!!
