12 bolt loses less than a 9inch but some say the 12 bolt will break under alot of power too. but since your just H/C street car it should be ok. I know a member on here by the name of Cam builds ford 8.8 rears for f bodies and they lose less than a 9 inch but i dont know how much.

Read several different things concerning this question, I think it boils down to this. 9 inch and 12 bolt lost 1-2% and Dana 60 lost 5-6%. I went with the 9 but don't know if it was the BEST choice but I'm happy with it and it weighs a little less than the Dana 60. One word of wisdom, if you are going to drag race it DO NOT buy it with a True Track, go with a Spool, Locker or a good Clutch Style center.

My 9 inch is 154 lbs, thats ten bolt weight, my 12 bolt was 215 lbs. I gained ~ 1 mph, and dropped 1 tenth going from a 12 bolt to a 9 inch. from 4.11 to 4.56 gears, 26 to 28" tires. Whats my point, go with the 9" you wont notice the 5 hp you lose..... and you can save the equivilant in weight....

9" is the best all around. 12 bolts loose a bit less but are not as strong, S60s are really strong but loose quite a bit of power. I cant speak much about the 8.8" but I am very happy with the Midwest Fabbed 9" I got, it weighs about the same dry and a 10 bolt with oil, so you gain however 3 quarts of oil weighs, and its a kick *** rear end.

I felt no loss when I swapped rears in my car. In fact, it trapped its highest ever with the M9 122.12, vs 121.96 with the 10 bolt, and I was also running a heavier drive-shaft as well. 3.5" PST vs the stock 3".
Plain and simple, these cars need the stronger components that aren't as dyno happy as the *****-*** stock ****. What good is power if you can't use it? Get the parts that will take the abuse, it's well worth the small amount of power loss that you would see on a dyno.
