Help me with AC Repair in San Antonio
Anyone local be kind enough to assist me in fixing my AC system?
I went to a shop today and had it tested, charged, and UV dye put in. They couldnt find a leak. Told me to drive it around for a couple of days, and bring it back if it looses it's "cool" or I notice leakage.
Popped the hood when I got home, topped it off with another can of Freon (mechanic recommended I do so, as he only put in one can- they charge alot for that crap) I noticed around the valve stem the dye was showing it's ugly face. Called mechanic back, he said he thinks it can be replaced and that'd solve the problem.
He got off work, and called me back and said, I could probably do it myself, instead of where he works charging me 70+ to drain the system, and recharge it, and that's not including an hour worth of labor costs, and the cost of the valve stem (although it's not much).
He said a parts store should carry the stems, and the part that'll help me bleed/drain the refrigerant out of the system.
Anyone have experience with doing this? Anyone know for sure if the valve stem can be replaced without replacing the whole unit?
If someone would be kind enough to help me out, I'm willing to compensate with food/beer/gas money...
Let me know... I really am tired of sweating my ***** off in traffic...

Last time I look oriellys sold an R22 to R134 retrofit kit for around $50 maybe. It came with 134, hoses, oil, and the high side and low side fittings to replace. Since the fittings on an already existing R134 system are usually a permanent fixture, i *believe* that the schrader valves are removable just like a tire valve stem and a fuel rail one.

Man, if you decide not to work on it yourself (I never mess with A/C stuff, I want that SH*T to WORK - lol) PM me and I can give you the name of a shop that can take care of it reasonably.
I had dye put in mine over a year ago and it took 6 months to bleed out. Mine's not a daily, so its not TOO big of a problem...but I still need to take it back and find out where its leaking.
