Default When Will We See A 6th Gen Camaro?

So... assuming the Camaro survives this long. Come around 2014ish (give or take), do you guys think we'll see a 6th Generation Camaro (giving the 5th gen a short generation much like the 1st gens) or do you think GM will just update it?

I ask this because thats around the time you would expect the Mustang to go into its 6th Generation and it seems (at least to me) that it would be smart for GM to follow or even lead suit to stay competitive with the Mustang.

I know its very early to really assume this, but thoughts?

No. It takes them years to develop a new platform and there is no money for that now and won't be for at least a few years. More like 2020 if we are lucky.

Its already the best platform ever used on a Camaro. If anything, expect subtle reskins of the same body for years to come. Kind of like what they did with the '10 Mustang.

What impact do you all think that will have as far as the Camaro/Mustang rivalry goes? Seems like it would make both the Camaro and the Mustang have their mid generation updates become a little more "meaningful"

i think we will definitely see a 6th gen, but the pwoerplants may be alot different. expect a turbo DI V6 which could actually be pretty damn quick. also, id expect a DI LS motor by the time this rolls around. as for the body, i think it will end up shedding weight, in the never ending pursuit of MPG, but it will resemble this 5th gen alot, with minor tweaks and stuff. my guess: 2014, only because of the NEEDED changes due to CAFE and whatnot.

We won't. Given the current probelms at GM(they are no where near out of the woods yet), current economic problems and fuel efficiency desires of government and car buyers.... the 5th gen will be short lived. Maybe 2 or 3 years at most. After that... the car will get old and it will get axed. END.

i say there wont be a 6th gen. GM will milk out the 5th gen for about 10 years then when people are tired of looking at the same car, they will say sales are terrible we are canning the camaro. but there will be a 90th version of the colbalt, different name same car like the cav and colbalt im thinking another name off the periodic table of elements

GM needs to get their money's worth on this one, expect 8-9 years before you hear of a platform rumor and like Nineball said, expect a few reskins.

I wouldn't expect a complete redesign for quite a few years. Essentially, the 3rd and 4th gens are the same platform with reskin and drivetrain changes.

As per Mustang, well the FOX body was a platform that lasted over 25 years, so don't expect to many changes from Ford other than powertrain and sheetmetal.

I think in order for the pony cars to remain around they're going to need to be smaller and weigh less. Performance trim compact cars take away from the sales of the base model Camaro, Mustang and Challenger. IMO they need to be small midsized cars (its not like we've ever had back seat space lol) and that matched with their current power output will make them faster and give them better gas mileage. Easier said than done tho, I know this.

I just find it interesting that the Camaro/Firebird and Mustang used to change up their Generations roughly around the same time (give or a take a year) and now that may not be the case. Then again, perhaps the 5th Gen Mustang might have a really long Generation, but Im not nearly knowledgable enough about the Mustang to know the facts behind that.

And to think everyone and their dog put "Buckwheat" in charge of Office.

This is it gentlemen, the last Camaro we will see for some time.

If it isn't obvious, the good days are done and we are going into a recession, despite the financing and golden promises we see from the government.

Five generations are enough, If you can't deal with it then go buy a Ford. I'm sure there's tons of pony boys to give you what you need for self satisfaction.

You do realize that if your telling me to
"don't expect nothing"

...your actually tell me to "expect something".

Back to the topic, correct me if i'm wrong, but GM used all f-body platforms for 10 years before chaning to the next generation. The 4th gen platform ran from 1993 through 2002 (10 years).

Though that was quite a while ago. With Ford announcing much shorter times between generations of their cars going forward, maybe GM follows suit?

I didn't vote for Buckwheat, but you are probably right. I don't think this is sustainable much longer.
