Default 02 Z06 cam?

Well guys, im looking into getting a cam. My car's a DD so i don't want major lope but still a decent 30 hp gain?

A buddy of mine just sent his 98 firehawk off to get a MS4 cam, and took his old 02 Z06 cam taken out .218 intake, .204 exhaust .550 lift, and 117.5 lobe sep. The cam only has 7k miles on it and came out of an LS6 crate motor. He's wantin to sell it w/ the pushrods, lifters, and springs for lil over 200$.

What kinda gains do you think i could get from this cam? Is it worth the money for a DD cam or should i go a lil bigger ( like a .228 cam?)

Make sure the cam has #5308 on the back of it. Ive seen tons of people selling "LS6" cams that arent.

i am not a cam expert but i am sure a lot of people will tell you there are a ton of great aftermarket cams that will be better and not hurt the DD factor. its pretty much all in a good tune.

I'm not real sure about 30 hp, probably 20-25 would be more like it. The consensus on here though is that if you're going to go to all the trouble of swapping cams, go with an aftermarket one. Why gain 25 hp when you can gain 50+?

I did that swap a long time ago and couldn't feel any real noticeable gains. I would advise against the swap unless your buddy wants to give you the package for free.

Get a TSP 224 or 228R cam instead. It's not going to lope crazy at all and it's going to make more power. LS6 cam is pretty much going to be lame without the 243 heads. You'll make more power using stock heads with a 224 or 228R.

Also, for $200, it's not worth it at all. A new cam is often times around the same price. If you're going to go through the trouble of installing a cam, get a new one that makes more power.

He's said dd I guess you'll never get the right answer but Thank God I did the swap to:
I had ls6 cam an heads only I upgraded to a 224 cam and didn't feel a difference at all Man the ls6 package is a Dog for real I don't even have headers but if you get the ls6 Heads,Cam, an Intake without headers you'll kick *** but with headers you'll really be glad you went down that road.

The LS6 heads are worth more than the LS6 cam,
look at some of the other "old man" cams or a
220 or 224 on 114. The only good thing about LS6
is you won't need to tune it, because it does almost
nothing to how the motor runs. So what's the point,
when most of the cost is in the labor?

I totally agree but alot of us f-body lovers hate having to go trough all of that so we do it simple and our setup still make good numbers an still be daily driven.

I know my car is a DD, but when you don't have a tuner anywhere close by and i mean within 300 miles or so. Its a pain so i can see why people do ls6 heads/cam.

I had an edelbrock cam and changed over to the ZO6 cam and love it. Doesnt pull as high rpm wise but 2500-6000 it pulls like a train. and if you run full exhaust it’s a short-duration design with low overlap so it’s
not really affected that much by back-pressure

for people with 98-99 ls1's which have the bigger factory cam, they can add some 1.8 rockers to their car and end up with almost identical cam specs as a 2001 corvette ls6 cam. this along with the ls6 heads and intake should bring u to the 385hp rating of the corvette in 2001. 2002+ ls6 cam was a little better.
