Default No emissions legal headers and catted y-pipe for my '98?

There are no CARB certified headers and catted Y setup available (to the best of my knowledge) for that car.
Is this correct? For my '98 Trans Am?

So, I can't get Texas emissions legal headers? How is this possible? They make headers with EGR connections and so forth.

Well, I went down to the shell gas station down the street from me that also do smog and asked them about the subject. He said it doesn't matter if I have long tubes as long as there are cats located somewhere in my exhaust set up, so its gonna be up to the State you are in.

the only ones that are legal are shorties. the mac mids look legal and make close to the power that LTs make. you cant get LTs on your car legally because its a federal offense to move the position of the cat. but like i said, it hasnt stopped anyone

As stated above, federal offense to move cats, but not something that is enforced really. I have TSP carted y-pipe with magnaflow cats with pacesetter LTs. Just do it.

Well, I don't want to give a cop or anyone any reason to hassle me.

I want ceramic-coated headers. What shorties do you recommend?

That's not too bad. I've seen some BBKs for like $399. The primary size is a good size. I've read online that I can get around 10-15 rwhp with shorties. I'll probably get a tune, too, and get a little more.

you must know nothing about emissions. moving cats from the factory position makes it illegal.

LT's are illegal because you move the cats. But I live in TN and the county I live in does emissions testing. To give you an example I had a 98 T/A with LT's and TSP 3" X pipe system with O2 sims in the rear. You know what I pass the test cause the car wasn't throwing the SES light but I failed the part where they look for the cat under the car cause it didn't have one. So I got a 3" In and out cat and gutted the inside and took it back to get tested and I pass. They say as long as you have a cat on there you will pass. But maybe when you get another car tested or you have a friend go test one go with them and just ask the question but don't let them know you will be doing it.

So, you think shorty headers are inherently "bad" and there cannot be a "best" of the "bad" shorty headers.

I believe the shorties must also have a CARB number to be legal, also. Maybe that's only in the state of California as shorties without a CARB number are still illegal there if memory serves correctly. CARB number is 100% certain legal in all states though if you're hellbent on being safe. Edelbrock's make shorties with a CARB number, though you won't see much gains from them unless you go FI or spin the motor really high to warrant the mediocre scavenging shorties provide.

Quick Reply: No emissions legal headers and catted y-pipe for my '98?
