Those are the lugs out of the case where the intermediate clutch retaining snap ring goes in !!!

greg, thanks for confirming my suspicions on what they were.... im not very good at knowing the internals of a trans.... does this mean my th400 casing is trash? or can it still be repaired?


what could have caused this to happen?

Greg is right and yes the case is trash. How hard was the 1-2 shift? Also did your builder use a wide intermediate snap ring?

1-2 shift wasnt too hard..... to be honest it was softer than my brothers hughes race built 400.

as far as the parts that were in it, as it turns out so far i have noticed from what i can see nothing is what i paid for and handed the guy to have installed...the valvebody and brake were also different brands than what i paid for.

Could have had excessive clearance in the intermediates, too large of a feed hole going to the intermediates, or very high line pressure. Or could be a combination of a few of those.

VB and brake were supposed to be hughes.... i remembered what they looked like when i first received them.... whats in there looks nothing like what i purchased.

oh well.. i guess either way this is going im needing to install a new th400.
