Default Exhaust compatibility question

I'm ordering kooks headers... Will the b&b sport exaust with just the x pipe and mufflers catback meet up with the headers? I won't be running cats or the kooks front pipes... Just trying to get a feel for what I gotta have to pull this combo off...

You are better going B&B headers with that otherwise you are going to end up with 3" header collector - 2.5" connection pipes or cats - 3" exhaust....big bottleneck there especially with that big cam you are going to run.

Should I go 1 7/8 headers then?

You'll lose some tq if you go to the 7/8ths.

But will they work better with my "big" cam?

I don't think he's moving enough air to take advantage of the larger diameter. I could see a H/C or a blower car but cam only I think it'll hurt the bottom end.

The hp up top will be more but I think he'll sacrafice some tq for it.

The term is called Exhaust Gas Scavenging.

NOW

I could type my head off but people usually get Back pressure and this term mixed up.

John D.- So, you are going from 3 inch collectors to 2 1/2 to 3 inch exhaust piping(mufflers)?

As long as you plan to make or weld in a 3-Inch x-pipe, you will be fine. I will find pics of my custom x-pipe for you. Easy cheesy...

Are the B&B's 2 1/2?

From what I understood there is no connection pipe available for Kooks to B&B. I had to make my own which turned out good but I also switched the Kooks headers to a V-band setup.

I would just call up a local exhaust shop and see if they carry 3" stainless. They probably won't have a mandrel bender but I wouldn't worry about that. If you had some 90° bends I would say make sure its mandrel bent but the tube should hardly crimp as small as the bends will be and you will still be ahead of the guys with 2.5" connection pipes. They should be able to bend them up and expand the end to connect to the Kooks within a couple hours.

The only thing you will need if they have the stainless is (2) 2-bolt 3"id stainless exhaust flanges.

I would go with the 1-7/8" headers. I did and I would do it again. Never hurts to be prepared for the future.

Let me know if you decide to have some connection pipes made. I have the (2) 2-bolt brackets that came off my Kooks when I switched to the V-bands. I will sell them for $15 shipped which is hella cheaper than getting them from Kooks.
