HELP!!: Jerks hard when shifting to Drive/Reverse from Park or Neutral
HELP!!
I'm not sure if theres anything wrong with the torque converter, but when I shift from Park or Neutral to any gear, the car jerks pretty hard and i hear the brakes. Sounds like it the brakes have trouble holding the car from rolling. I idle normally around 600rpm, and on cold start it seems normal at 1000 rpm. I think the converter may be locking up too early. Is it possible?
Anybody knows what it could be?

Any codes? You need to get a Tech 2 and do I diagnostic circuit check and see what is throwing a code. In addition, the car may have stored codes, but no light, so be weary of that. On a car that I had, one of the sensors in the engine went bad, I think coolant, and since the computer thought the temp was much colder than it actually was, it told the trans to "slam" into a gear. Replaced a 4 dollar connector, car ran fine. check the little **** like that before you start to panic.
On the other hand, the convertor could be the problem, and the fluid in there might also be the problem. Have it checked out by a dealership.

Actually about a month after I got the car, it threw a code and I got SES. It was an 'intermittent MAF' error. So I unplugged and replugged the MAF harness and it went away. Other than that, I don't know if there were any MAF probs. I also scanned it with autotap and got no more codes.

Mine was doing that on my LT1 not long ago. I had a low voltage TPS code(no SES light). Replaced the TPS and brought it to .6 volts at idle and the trans shifts great again.

I measured mine on atap. Locate Throttle Position Sensor (under Fuel systems) then add to table. Once it's added, right hand click on it and scroll down to, "Graph it". Once the graph is created move it on the desk top wherever you want it. Probably, more info than you need...
I don't know if this is your problem however, it's worth it to atleast check it out.
