i've pretty much narrowed down my tone search to two these two setups. i really like the GMMG...but i refuse to pay that much for the original system. i figure i could take a picture of the cat back to a shop, and have them fab a custom one for me for a fraction of the cost.

if i decide to do this...are power sticks the best mufflers to go with? i'd like to get as close to the original sound as possible. what brand/type is best...and also, what length would i want?

on the other hand, the TSP rumbler seems to be getting a good bit of positive feedback. sounds decent to me. are there any negative stories i should hear to warn me against it?

all opinions, biased or not, are welcome. i'd love to hear what everyone thinks of these ideas, and maybe which one would be better overall.

by the way, i'm running a completely stock '99 T/A, stock manifolds, stock Y, and no plans to change them for a while.

id go with gmmg, pricey yes, but 100% worth the money. i havent heard a better sound come outta the LS engines yet, but thats just my 2 cents. goodluck on whatever u decide.

take it from someone who has had the rumbler and GMMG within 6 months of each other. get the GMMG. you cannot clone the sound of it. im not saying the rumbler is a bad system, its the best fitting system ive ever had. very easy to install. but when you have the GMMG, you have the tips, the mufflers you can see from the back. and you can say you have a GMMG

i have a TSP rumbler and its Great. especially for the Price difference. GMMG is a good system too, but i think its to expensive.

u could get 3 tsp for 1 gmmg, spend that extra money on headers or something.
tsp-$250 gmmg-$900 with tips WOW!!

not sure if powersticks fabbed up will be able to create the same sound as GMMG, although it sounds like a good idea. although i have LTs, the GMMG is one of the loudest catbacks out there and most unique sounding. if you cant drop the cash for a new GMMG, pick one up used, or fab up something new that no one has tried and lets hear it!

Except for maybe flowmaster a catbacks a catback sound differances aside. The straight through systems give you a little more power..The Rumbler is a steal for the price...I wouldnt pay anywhere near GMMG's price regardless of how good it sounds...but thats just my opinion...id use that money somewhere else. I got my LM1 for 150.00 used or id have a rumbler on.

I have tds out the back with Classic Chambered (powerstick) mufflers and it sounds damned good. Very similar to GMMG. That's why I did it without paying the gmmg price.

Magnaflow could be in the middle, nice sound and very good performance. I have SLP dual dual and I love the sound of it, wouldnt change over anything. Only thing I would like is maybe a getting TD with X pipe someday because it sounds awesome but heh..

I would not spend that much on catback without getting LTs first!!

i've had magnaflow on another f-body and didn't keep it more than a month. great performance...WEAK sound. i dig that throaty, non-rasp growl...hence the chambered/bullet styles. honestly, i don't care for the GMMG tips much either. i'm pretty set on a pair of Corsas (or the clones from afterthoughtsauto).

really just need to know if y'all think it's better to wait it out and look for a used GMMG (because i'm pretty sure i won't pay that much, regardless of how great it is), fab a clone catback similar to a GMMG, or just go with the TSP. out of those three...that's my dilemma.

I got my GMMG for $500 new back in 2001

Too bad I didn't take it off the trans am cuz I'm about to lower the camaro and the true duals aren't gonna work. Only options are 3" powersticks but they don't come in stainless so I can't polish them so they're out and sweet thunder only comes in 2.5" internally and smaller so they are out too.

if you're going to keep the stock manifolds, cats and y, the tsp rumbler with its bullet muffler should sound pretty good.

i also had the magnaflow and swapped it out for something louder.

here's a compilation video of my 99 SS - same basic setup as yours with stock manifolds and y pipe - with my tsp rumbler. goes from startup, light revs to 2k RPM, quick rev to about 4k RPM, then a donut at WOT on the brakes. it should give you a pretty good idea of what this thing sounds like on our cars.

i got mine without tips and just got a hold of some SLP 3.5" double-wall tips from ws6store.

Sounds good, are they the plain pipes out the back without the tips they look pretty good without them.
