243 Heads price fair?
I found a set of 243's with an LS6 intake for 850$. The heads are complete and both the heads/intake only have 4000 miles on them. They look brand new. Is the price fair? Forgot to add, they have the sodium filled valves and come with valve covers too. Thanks in advance.

I paid $500 plus shipping for my 243 heads off an LS2 from here assembled. I sold them for the same amount when I bought the complete LS6 engine. LS6 heads, what you're looking at, aren't worth more than the LS2 heads because it is debatable that the slightly lighter -- and thus slightly weaker -- valves are "better." For what I want them for, a street car, the LS6 heads are a little bit better, but a high hp engine is going to replace them anyway. So, they're all worth the same amount in the end.
I think $650 shipped is the going rate, IIRC, with $500 plus shipping being the good deal around here.

Thanks. I'm gonna offer him 775 and see what he says. 799 casting are the same as 243? I've seen the intakes go for 350$ used so I think I'll be doin alright if he takes that.

More than I'd ever pay for that setup.. but I always try to find the best deals then turn around and make a profit..lol
I bought some LOW MILE (2k) LS2 243 heads for $200 and resold them on here for $450. Also some 799 heads for $120 and resold them for $350.
You could save at least ~$100 by buying that stuff separately on here or find a local deal.
The way you typed that with no punctuation or grammar makes it seem very confusing..hah
Edit: Oops I just realized you're the one who bought my 799s..haha.

I bought a set of 243's from a local guy. They came off a 10,000 mile 2002 Z06. Paid $350 for them. There are some good deals out there, you just need to jump on them when they come up. That's not too bad of a deal for the heads, intake and valve covers, but i would offer less than that.

The 317s are truck heads and will lower the compression ratio to about 9-1. They are popular for forced injection motors. That is why it is recomended to mill them down to increase compression, something not necessary with 243 heads.
Two, the LS6 heads have additional features other than the lighter sodium valves and better springs for higher RPMs. The heads, if genuine LS6 products, are also CNCd machined and flow better than the standard 243 heads found on LS2 motors. I do not have the charts in front of me, but I think LS2 heads flow at 260 CFM on the intake, while the LS6 heads are about 280. This figure volume matches the LS6 manifold which is rated the same.
The 799s are found on 4.8 and 5.3 motors. They have the same size valves and almost identical chambers as the 243s. They are a good choice and can be found cheaper than 243s which have the reputation. They can be ported and polished to make over 300 CFM at 600 lift, but they come with standard stainless steel valves. They flow 260ish stock. Hope this helps.
