Default 98 pcm

What type of extra things will I have to deal with tuning a 98 car?
Putting LS7 in it any different than a 99-02?

I know its off based but what else is different, wire harness, PCM, Gas tank, heads and valve covers. Anything else I should know.

Im looking for a new TA and the 98 are all over. What about PCM and wire harness conversion?

I searched and found that the 98 PCM is usiable, but tuning is limited.

It will be a 418 with a LQ9 heads, fast 102/102 and 1-300 shot of spray, with no MAF.
Will the 98 work?

If I switch can I get my 02 wire harness modified to work with the internal dash of a 98 that seems to be the big issue?

Go aftermarket on the wiring harness and use a reprogrammed factory PCM.

Unless you plan to boost the motor, a '98 ecu should work. The only difference in ls1 motors and ls2-ls7's are the location of the knock and cam sensors. Oh and make sure the ls7 has a 24 tooth reluctor wheel on the crank. Newer lsx motors have a 58 tooth wheel that no f body ecu can read.

If you want alot of tunability, run a Big stuff 3. The money saved on a '98 over a '99 or newer might buy you a good standalone like that...

The 98 pcm is fine, just a few quirks. Backup ve table and such. You can repin the harness to work with a newer ecm, but you have to have efi-live to make the fuel gauge work. I dont believe that hp tuners will do that.

There are ones on ebay for $450 that look nice. Appears they come with connections for speedo and tach.
