The V6 makes no where near enough power to use a T56 behind it unless its turbo charged. Even at that, I would go with a 2.97 ratio unit over the 2.66 ratio.
But to answer your question, you can install a T56 behind a V6 with enough time and effort.

yea ok with enough time and effort. maybe i'm asking the question wrong? can this swap be performe by the average joe, in a garage? or better done by a mechanic in a shop? that what i'm asking

not what i wanted to hear, but you guys seem to be the experts. was hoping to get the t56 and rearend swapped out for cheap. guy is looking to get rid of wreck camaro out of his yard. thought i could get a jump on my engine and tranny swap

WEll you can swap the rear end in i believe. And just keepthe Tranny out til you put the other motor in. Trust me, it's alot easier just to save all your money up and put them in at once.

Yes you can swap a T56 in for a T5 on a 3800, but you may need an adapter plate, and perhaps to switch to an LS1 input shaft which is longer than the LT1 piece, or so I have read. I stopped following the intricacies of this a while back but there are some people who have already and are currently doing this at fullthrottlev6.com. I'd suggest a search there. T5 will not likely play well with big power for long without at least doing some internal upgrades, but you might give it a shot and see how long it goes. In the long run replacing the five speed is a good idea.
On the rear - the v8 rear is the same as the v6 rear but you either have rear discs or you don't. They are all ten bolts. You just want to pick your gearing and open/lsd wisely. BTW the LS1 driveshaft should swap into the 3800/t5 car with no modification.

^Yes he did get a custom adapter from a company that is no longer operational, as far as I know. There is another company (non sponsor), that someone else over on FTV6 found that looks like it might work, but no one has tried it out yet, though calls have been made.
