Default Looking for a mild street cam for 97 vette

I have a 97 vette with all the bolt ons i can find and YT 1.8 rockers for a little extra power. This is a daily driver but I'd like to get little more power without sacrificing street manners. The plan is to get a set of 243 heads with all new valvetrain components and a mild cam.

I'd like a non-lumpy idle and good low end power even if it means sacrificing the top end. I rarely push past 5000 RPM due to insane drivers pulling out in front of me so i need a nice fat torque curve in the 2-4K RPM range.

So far the GM hotcam seems like a good canidate since i've heard re-tuning isn't essential (although reccomeended)

Suggestions?

Look into a 224/228 cam or TSP 224 LSA 114 or TSP 228 LSA 114 From what I've been reading that TSP 224 is a great street cam just have a good tuner.

If you do not plan on tuning the motor then do not touch it further. Tuning is essential and mandatory. Heck tuning a stock setup will yield extra power.

If you do a mod, especially something as costly as a cam swap, and it doesn't need a tune change it is not worth doing. Who ever told you that you will not need a tune change should not be giving advice.

I'm running a FTI 220/224 and love it. Makes almost as much power as my old 228/232 Comp I had and a lot more torque down low. Very mild idle at 800 rpm. It lopes a little when cold but really not bad at all. Great all around cam. Very easy to tune also.

I agree with Predator-Z, without tuning I'd leave your setup as is.

First off, get the car tuned after whatever mods you choose or don't waste your time/money.

This statement was made back when there was zero tuning software available for LS1's. Back in 98-00, people had no choice but to run the Hotcams without tuning.

You also have to take in account the 1.8 rockers you're running.

For what you're wanting a 218/222 .530-.540ish 115LSA cam would fit the bill. Will peak around 5900, make more midrange than a stock cam, idle very close to stock, and would run fairly decent with no tuning (if you insisted on not tuning the car).

I would agree with Damian but 218/222 .563, .566 112+3 LSA,
38 IVC for stock peak and 300 rpm shifts past that, -4* overlap so fairly stealthy.
