wanting a cam but what to get?
im in the market in putting a cam in my car but not exactly sure of what to get or just go the custom grind...i got a 99 z28 with performabuilt lvl 2 trans with around a 4k stall(oo high for me) im going to be restalling the trans to a lower one. this is my daily driver and its an a4....im wanting the most out of the cam without sacrificing too much drivability. basically the bigest cam i should gho with this being a DD. also someone has told me that the heads have to be removed to do the cam swap? is this true? thanks for the advice guys.

I'm in the research phase of finding a heads/cam upgrade for my Firebird, but I don't have any real world experience with any aftermarket cam grinds. (I hope to change this very soon. ) So presently, I can't really help you out with your choice.
I do know this site has many, MANY, threads that pertain to the question: "which cam should get?" Its as simple as doing a search. It should result with more than enough info to thoroughly confuse you. LOL.
I can also tell you, it isn't necessary to remove the heads to upgrade your camshaft. There are plenty of threads on the process, as well. Don't be afraid to wear out that "Search" button.
Good luck with your decision.

What are you goals? You need to be honest with yourself first before you can ask other people what they think you might want. Do you want something that lopes real hard and shakes the car like a dragster. Or do you want a sleeper cam that runs great sounds like stock. You can even have hard loping small cams that make great torque and hp without sacrificing driveability.

cams are designed for a specific rpm performance range. All the cam makers and sellers can get you what you need when you discuss it with them. You will need better springs and push rods. It is common for people to over cam their cars which kills low and mid performance. Talk to the cam experts about your combo.

Somewhere around 370-400 whp, depending on the dyno as a dynojet will give higher numbers. With my TSP 228, I put down 380 whp on a mustang dyno, which reads lower & is supposedly more accurate. I know a local guy that had a 224 cam in his vette & put down 370 on a mustang but it put down 408 on a dynojet.

228r cam would be my first choice but would considder using a cam in the
230's range. something like the torquer v2(tsp) or the raptor(thunder racing) or one of vengence racing cams.

228-mid/high 230s custom spec would be my choice
don't go any smaller or you'll just regret it...I can barely tell my car is cammed with the 230/224 cam and I wish I had gone a little bigger or at least more aggressive on the lobes
part will depend on what you restall too, I just got a yank3600 and its a great DD stall IMO but I've heard the yank stalls are tighter under normal driving than some other brands

If your staying on stock heads Id do a big cam, I daily drive a Trex cam through stock heads and make 423rwhp. It sounds mean as hell too, Id highly recommend it www.thunderracing.com they have a lot of track proven cams as well. The new RaptR cam is turning a lot of heads as well.

Torquer V.2 would be a great cam to daily drive in. I know plenty of people who have used this cam and it's made great power and has really good street manners. Also have a few friends who have Futral Motor sport's f13 cam and good results as well. I've always dealt with Trevor over at Texas-Speed. Every recommendation he has made to me has always been right on. There one of the few who actually don't mind talking with people.

I searched alot and went with the Torquer V2. Loved the power it made and the sound and was still not to big of a cam for a DD. Nice well rounded cam that is not tooo big but not small. Loves the jug too....
Couldnt be happier with performance, driveability and sound....
