Lightbulb Fabbing up Custom Fuel Rail Covers

My brother bought my corvette fuel rail covers for my car. I wanted to paint them the same color as my car so we made a short video highlighting some of the process. Enjoy!

And some bigger pics...

yeah not a fan of even MORE plastic under the hood. would much rather like to see coil relocation kit and a good set of VC's.

i used bondo on mine, and havent had any problems arise.

out of curiosity, what the hell should bondo be used for? every time someone says they used it for anything it gets a no-no. so is it considered a bad product (for any use) within the paint/body community?

Any type of glazing putty should be used very thinly (less than 1/4 inch if possible), not gobbed on as it tends not to flex and if it gets too thick it will crack. 2 part adhesives designed to bond with the particular material being repaired/filled is generally preferred. Products like bondo are generally used as a final leveling step, not by itself filling large voids. It may crack tomorrow, it may never crack, the thicker it is the more likely it is to crack. Bondo has a bad reputation because lazy shops or individuals will not do proper repairs and will use bondo as a quick, cheap (improper) fix.

To the OP, the final product looks good - the door decals fit nicely

Default plastic covers

hope the bondo holds up for you.all depends on the type of plastic.I like the 3m ez-sand flexible filler/adhesive.its easy to work with, sets up fast and is easily sanded. do not use glazing puddy as it will shrink and crack.again great job!

Bondo isnt bad..Like posted above you cant glob it on and expect it to work. It got a bad name when shops and lazy asses tryed to sculpt cars from the stuff. When applyed and used properly it works great. Look at some of the cars the high end builders build such as Foose, he uses the hell out of it, thats how cars get soo damn straight. There are cheap brands and better brands of the plastic filler. Its all in how its used!

BTW They Rail Covers look bad ***!! ~Awsome Job~
