Default HID fogs in a camaro

I know I know I used the search already haha. I'm just still unclear on a few things. I recently installed DDM Tuning's 35 watt 6000k slim ballast kit for my low beams and it's made my fogs look completely useless and ugly. So I want to get HIDs in my fog lights as well and I was going to just go ahead and order another DDM slim ballast kit but I've heard that HID bulbs have fitment issues with the stock fog housing and that they get very hot so they could melt the plastic.

I read that some people have used the Hella Micro DE because it's almost a direct replacement for our fogs. From what I have found they only sell them with their ballasts and bulbs but it's extremely expensive. I want to be able to use just the housing and then get a DDM HID kit, is there anywhere that sells just the housing? Also, are there any cheap-ish projector style housings that use HIDs and can fit without a lot of trouble?

I'm using the DDM HIDs in my stock fogs for about a year I guess now with no issues. I would remove them and reshoot the reflective chrome inside before putting in the HIDs since you may get a little flaking off of the material when putting in the bulbs.

The fogs melting with HIDs is only a concern with the birds. They have plastic housings and/or lenses (forget which). Camaros have glass lenses and metal housings.

Ah ok. mySStery, I'm guessing you used the 880 bulb? Did you have any issues getting it in?

same here. 55W 3000k 880 DDM Slim Ballast kit w/relay harness. I also had to loosen the 4 screws on the bulb mount, insert bulb, then tighten. no issues yet and the light output is awesome!

Sorry for the long response, but no I have had no issues really. Once in a great while one doesn't want to go on and I have to just turn fogs off and back on, no biggie.

A relay harness will fix this problem and prevent the stock wiring harness from melting over time.

go to ddmtuning.com and under their hid kids they have a relay harness.. it's like $15 and completely plug and play. it takes the signal from your current wiring harness but runs directly from the battery (or positive post by the fuse block) and runs a high gauge wire. It allows more current (from the hid kids)and will help protect your stock wiring.

It's like $15 for shipping... so might as well order a kit while you're at it lol.

Do you need one harness say for HID lows/fogs or do you need one harness for each pair of lights?

one harness for each set of lights. Mixed reviews on 35W whether or not they need the harnesses... with 55W you will definitely want the harnesses. I'd get them even with 35W just for piece of mind and to avoid possible damage to the stock wiring.
