Default Pros and cons of SD Tune?

From what I gather the MAF is used mainly for drivability and lower RPM's and the SD Tune is a PITA to tune.. May the MAF be why the LS1 setup drives better?

Ideas? Pros+Cons?

Do a search on this, you will find tons of opions about it. I'm going SD, I was very hesitant but my buddies car just got tuned in SD and it runs great. It is all in the tune. It takes alot to get the VE right but it can work well. It also depends on your set up, why do you consider going SD? Are you flowing so much air that the MAF is a restriction? Either way can be tuned well by a good tuner, it just depends on what your needs and goals are for the car.

Well, I'm lookin into getting a massaged 92/92 setup, with possibly a larger TB, I'd like some different as well. I'd like some TFS heads, but I'm not sure I'll ever be ready to drop that coin..

I was thinking SD to get the MAF out of there. It'll have to be done eventually.

There is no power gain going to SD. I go SD on some cars for a few reasons. Huge Cam with alot of overlap or FI to control different boost level settings.

Thats about it.

I agree completely. I have plenty of cars out there with pretty big cams and still running a MAF.

Ahh... I'm learning.. I know there's no power gain, just wondering about the other aspects of the setup.

Where the hell do you get MAF's that big??! What about a 92mm-ish MAF for a GMPP 90mm intake?

IIRC ws6store has some pretty good sized ones, I think you can get a 100 from them, I know they have a 102mm lid.

The main reason I like Speed Density is simply because there's less to tune. You only need to calibrate the VE table. If you run the MAF you also need to calibrate that as well.

Maf is only used on its own after 4000rpm. Under this rpm its job is mainly to sanity check the dynair prediction.(SD)

You can use a GM Hitachi MAF from the LS3 Corvette which is also used in the Malibu I believe.
GM Performance parts sells a small aluminum adapter that you can attach to virtually any tube you want and the card slides into it.

It is part of the LS3 stand alone harness kit.

That or just get this http://www.powrmax.com/PowrMAF%20100.html
