I just use some stuff I got at the dollar tree, works great for being only $1.
It's yellow in color, "LA's totally awesome" all purpose concentrated cleaner - degreaser spot remover, spray on, wipe off.
No dilution needed for engine bays, it's good for everything, good for removing break dust on wheels as well.

I just cleaned up my engine bay a few days ago. I used some basic cheap autozone engine degreaser. Got all the nasty dried oil between the heads, intake, and components and stuff. Didn't even scrub, then washed it out at a car wash with a low power pressure washer, and it's clean as a whistle. I love it, Next is polishing all the metal. It'd be a little more weary about spraying water down into an LT1 due to the optispark, even though I DID do it multiple times on my old 97..

It depends on how dirty your engine bay is. If its really grimy and oily I would use good old break cleaner and let it sit for a minute or two and then power wash it off. Or if you want to go on the safer side and not worry about any harsh chemicals, I honestly use a squirt bottle filled 50/50 with Tide or any sort of off the shelf laundry detergent and worm or hot water, and that does the trick almost all the time. Makes it look like brand new.

This is the only stuff I will use now. I used it on engine, and entire underbody. Not only does it work great, but everytime I shut my car off and park it in garage it smells like citrus! lol. Just spray, wait, scrub if needed, rinse, (I blew off with backpack blower) and run engine. That's it. Comes out perfect. No residue, or spots.
Careful with Simple green on aluminum. It eats it if full strength and prolonged periods of time.
