this might be a stupid question but im new to the ls1 model fbodys. does the 98-02 camaro's come with a fiber glass hood from factory or is it aluminum?

im trying to trade my hood for aluminum one but ima feel really stupid if they're all the same.

The Camaro/Z28 does not have a fiberglass hood. Who are you trading with that has an Alum. hood? There aren't many steel parts on these cars, but the hood is one of them. The SS/WS6 hoods are fiberglass.

the stock hoods are't fiberglass (atleast the base models arent... i cant tell you about SS/WS6). im pretty sure the stock hoods are made of SMC (sheet molding compound). aftermarkets are gonna be fiberglass for the most part.

you'll know the difference as soon as you hold the two of them. the stock hood weighs a LOT for than fiberglass aftermarkets

Stock z28 and firebird/trans ams are steel, and stock ws6/ss hoods are smc. Aftermarket ws6/ss hoods are fiberglass along with any other aftermarket hoods unless it thier stock aftermarket then thier steel. Never saw an aluminum hood for a f body

V6/Z28/TA hoods are steel, not aluminum (haven't seen any aftermarket aluminum hoods either). WS6/SS hoods are SMC which is a material like fiberglass.

sorry i thought they we're aluminum, i guess they are steel. well yea, i have a 99 camaro fiber glass hood and would like to trade if for a steel one.

haha, thats why those things were so much heavier than the aftermarkets. didnt know they were steel.

Believe it or not, many aftermarket SS/WS6 hoods are heavy and weigh over 24 lbs each - even the OEM SS/WS6 hoods are "heavy"! Almost the same as a steel hood. On the flip side, many aftermarket hoods are lightweight too. It really just varies depending on the brand/model...
