Default Stall converter question

okay i bought a 3800 stall converter and it doesn't brake stall to 3800 it brake stalls to 3k which is not what i wanted.
but it flashes to 3800 so my question is why when i ordered the converter and asked for it to stall to 3800 why doesn't it BRAKE STALL to 3800?

i called the company and they told me that when i am ordering a converter i am ordering the flash stall speed not the brake stall speed.

does that make sense?

also i am going to be changing gears and they told me that my stall speed will be lower if i do.

That's funny I would think that it brake stalls and flashes to the rpm of the stall I'm waiting on my car to come back from the shop with a built tranny and stall. I guess I'll have to do some testing

The advertised rpm rating of a given converter will always refer to its "flash rating". The vehicle's brake stall will ALWAYS be less than this, UNLESS you have a trans brake, which would allow you to brake stall to the flash rating of the converter.

Why does it matter what it brake stalls to? When you go WOT off the line it will flash to the rated stall speed. . get a transbrake if you are that worried about it

3800 does not mean it stalls to 3800 it means it flashes to 3800. With that converter (I have a 3600) you would launch at 1500 to 2000 and it would flash to 3800 and you would haul off the line..better get traction stuff and tires.

Okay i thought i read up on converters pretty good but i guess i didn't lol.

But is it true that if i do gears that it will lower my stall speed?

Also i plan on getting motive gears and i have a 2 series rear. and i heard some people say that i should upgrade to the 3 series is that true? Or will 2 series gears work fine.

One more question. How much of a difference will 3.73's make over the 2.73's i have now?

my car is a 95 z28 just to let you guys know.

thanks guys i am still learning about f-bods so any info will be much appreciated.

Since you have a 2 series carrier, I believe you can either have spacers installed with 3 series gears, or buy the thicker 3.73 gears designed for the 2 series carrier.

Hell, anything will be an improvement over those 2.73s, you'll pick up some nice gains for sure.
