Cool NEW BEST 10.60 @ 126 N/A!! Thunder Racing H/C 346ci LS1

NO SOLID ROLLER HERE!!

Ran a new best on almost all my runs last night at the SFFBA vs BADRAP Track Rental at Bradenton Motorsports Park, FL.

My Previous Best was:
10.68 @ 125 with 1.39 60'

On my first pass I pulled a really great wheelie and carried the wheels to almost the 60', I had to let off because I got a little loose and was looking at the left wall, the wheels weren't coming down fast enough for me to correct and get back in the groove. I let off enough for the wheels to come down then got back on full throtlle and ran it out for a 10.76 @ 125.

Here's the video: BMP 1st Pass, got loose.

On my 2nd pass I stayed in it, pulled a small wheelie and ran it out for a new best:

60'.... 1.443
330'... 4.306
1/8.... 6.725
MPH.... 101.08
1000'.. 8.830
1/4.... 10.606
MPH.... 126.10

Here's the Video: BMP 2nd Pass, NEW BEST.

I was really surpised to run out a 10.60 with only a 1.44 60' I guess I'm spoiled because to me a 1.44 60' is only so so. My car averages 1.41-1.42 60's every pass. My previous new best was with a 1.39 60'.

I backed the new best up with these 2 runs:

60'.... 1.446
330'... 4.335
1/8.... 6.750
MPH.... 101.39
1000'.. 8.852
1/4.... 10.625
MPH.... 125.31

60'.... 1.441
330'... 4.310
1/8.... 6.732
MPH.... 100.96
1000'.. 8.842
1/4.... 10.621
MPH.... 125.78

The crew at the track was doing a good job cleaning/prepping but for some reason my 60's were a little off. I tried to make some suspension adjustments but anything I tried only ended up giving me worse 60's like 1.48's - 1.50's and I ran a bunch of 10.67's and 10.69's

If only I could have cut some lower 60's like normal I would have ran 10.5x's!!

ALso the weather was cold about 49* at the track but the DA was around -400 which was about the same when I ran my previous new best at this same track.

The only change I made to the car was my new home made induction system and I'll tell you it definately paid off! Since it worked out so well I wil be beginning phase 2 and will be engineering a more permanent setup.

For more info on my induction read this thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-external-engine/126232-new-ss-induction-complete-video-inside.html

Oh yea my race weight was the same 3010 car + 214 me = 3224 racing weight.

Motor Specs:
Stock 5.7 LS1 block

your car was leaving great but that track was just too cold. if there had been just a little bit of sunlight it would have been hooking hard. congrats on the new best.

Thanks Devon!!

Your refering to the run with me and Dave

I raced "F1's" H/C/Spray automatic Z28. He runs 11.30's on motor and 10.30's on spray. He and I had almost the same RT and 60' foot. He slowly pulled on me down the track and I ended up trapping at his rear bumper.

Here's a video: ME vs DAVE

FEAR THE LS1, AWESOME times man. You got that car screaming!!!!!!!! I wish I could find another 150lbs to take outta my pig.....

BTW, I see you are saying its a Thunder Racing 346... Didnt you buy that shortblock from Mike Carnahan, who had it built for you @ Futral Motorsports? Im pretty sure youre the same guy. I remember shipping you the motor myself. Not that it really matters, I was just curios how that setup turned out and BAM here it is running mid 10s NA!!!! Looks like one hell of a combination..

At any rate, AWESOME times man. Goodluck on some 10.50s!!!!!!!

YUP! Thats my shortblock! Its an interesting story how I ended up with this motor.. I won a Ebay bid for a 2002 LS1 long block from Mike Carnahan, well when I contacted him about the motor to arrange payments and shipping we got to talking. I was originally shopping for a new motor to put a new set of Thunder Racing Heads and the 230/224 cam on. After talking with Mike he told me he was had a forged internal shortblock that was built by Futral for sale. I was in a rush because my old motor went boom, dropped a valve seat into the #1 cylinder (long story). Anyway I was in need of a new short block so Mike and I worked out a deal. I got the short block from you guys on the pallet and built the rest with Thunder Racing parts.

I titled this post Thunder Racing H/C 346 ci LS1, but I ALWAYS give Alan Futral props, he builds badass motors! Look at my setup and I can't wait to see track times on his new 418ci Monster!

Futral Motorsports!

Ahh, I thought that was you man. Glad to see everything turned out well. I was just a bit confused by the title of the thread I guess and wanted to make sure I had the right guy. I remember your sig used to say FMS shortblock. Allan definately builds some monsters. Im sure those GTPs sittin on top of it are definately helping things out a bit as well Take care man, congrats on the times!!

LOL

My wife said this to me earlier "If you shave off 600 to 700 lbs couldn't you run 9 seconds?"

I stared at her for a second then went over and hugged her.

She kills me sometimes, that was just too cute!

WOW Lee, that is great!

10.60 @ 126 is just plan SWEET!!!!!!

Everytime you go out you get faster and faster.

I just hope to be the second fastest Thunder Racing Hot Rod when the new motor goes in.

How many runs on your slicks? That could be the reason for the slower 60 ft time?

Good luck to ya this year and when is the 1st race for ya this year?

Hey Coach!

My points season starts Jan 24th.

I have quite a few heads up racing events coming up fast. 2 in February and 3 events in March, that aren't part of my points season. Right now the car is dialed in and running really strong. Also I was SO in the groove last night on the tree, I had 12 RTs in a row between .002 and .025 all on the footbrake. I was in a slump back in December where I kept friggin red lighting my self out of competitions.

I just got a Harlan 2 step also so I'll be installing it this week. For the heads up events I'll be 2 stepping the launches with the tbrake, I can cut better RT's off the button than the footbrake and should be able to run better 60's an ET being able to launch where I'd like. Right now I only hold the brake and stall to 2000 rpms.

Your points racing this weekend right? Good luck bro!

All my runs last night were off the foot brake stalling to 2000 RPMs

Lee,

Good luck on the 24th.

How many runs on your slicks? Just wanting to compare info.

My 1st points race is Feb. 21. Iam having a hard time right now making it to the track because Iam in the middle of wrestling season and have a wrestling tournament every weekend in Jan. and the 1st 2 weekends of Feb.

Its good to see you put the kids first, hopefully you can work it out to coach and race =)

I checked my log book, I bought a new set of slicks on Nov 28th and have exactly 49 runs on them. They are still in great shape. I think maybe the track surface was too cold, because I ran my best times Sat when there was still some daylight out, I wasn't able to get a track surface temp =( but when the sunset I think the track lost its heat.

Also there was few people running ET drags there, people wanted to get behind me to line up in my groove. I usually thank the dragsters for laying down hot rubber for me, but there wasn't any there Sat night.

Lee
