Default Tips on painting panel between tail lights???

Hey guys I want to sand the letters and bird of of the panel between my tail lights and go back black with a real nice shiny clear coat. I have never done this before how do I go about wet sanding or what ever I need to do to ensure that it is slick and glossy? Thanks!

if you want to get rid of the bird and TA logo your going to have to DA sand it with 400 gritt paper..the logos are etched into the plastic.becarful sanding heavy on the plastic as it can melt and ball up..after you get the panel smooth and you cant feal the logos go over the panel with 6-800 grit to knock down the fuzzy plastic..prime with good primer..sand that with 600 and paint

I hand sanded with 600 wet and then went to 800 wet and then 1000, then 2,000 and polished with plastic polish and no paint needed and it looks glossy as hell

this is possible i guess, same basic way i polish aluminum...but would most likely be cheaper to sand it and spray it..plus probably be alot quicker!

Clear...any good trim automotive spray paint clear or two part urethane spray can clear.do a google search for auto supply stores in your area..and pay them a visit they will guide you in the right direction...

400 grit is pretty course for use on plastic. I removed the the bird and letters and their leftover outline with 800 wet sanding. Just keep the surface wet and keep dipping the paper in the water. 800 will take it off in a couple minutes. Then wet sand with 1000, then 2000. Follow that with a polish like Meguiars Plastix using a buffer for that mirror finish. You can probably buff it by hand but it will take longer. No need to clear it, that plastic will buff out glossy.

The center section is a separate piece from the tail lights, but you do have to remove the tail lights to get the center piece off. Take off the big black wing nuts as described above. There are 5 on each tail light. You will have to remove, or at least loosen, the spare tire to get the last wing nut on the passenger side. When you remove the tail lights, the center piece comes off too.

I just bought letters from emblempros (sponsor on here) and they look absolutely awesome...better than any painted ones I've ever seen, they "stick out" a little past the bumper, they are emblems, not decals...The letters are just too small to look great painted, they don't stand out enough JMO tho...

if you dont have a buffer i just tried out the headlight kit you get from 3m, the round disc one you attach to a house hold drill, and it came out brand new. did all my tails and center, and after soaking in water you can use it again. i thought it may only do 1 light as the dumbass at autobone said, but we all know how bright they are. cheaper at walmart anyway
