Default Squeal when clutch disengaged = Going out (92K)

Took the 99TA to get it's June inspection today. Clutch started squealing half way home, doesn't sqeal when clutch is pushed in. Is a squeal when disengaged a sure sign of intial clutch problems?

Cars got 92K and the stock clutch, and I drive her like Grammy so parts don't break.

I got a complete LS7 clutch kit sitting in the garage but don't want to change it unless I gotta.

A squeal when you step on the clutch is usually the throwout bearing.

my 1000 mile Monster stage III has developed the same squeal when taking off so i hope it doesnt mean the clutch is on it's way out.

I had the same problem only with a newer slave less then a year old. With my foot off the pedal it made a high pitch squeal but as soon as you put any pressure on the pedal it would go away. About 2 weeks of that and the bearing failed compleatly ans the slave spit the piston out loosing all of it's fluid.

^Okay thanks. I sorta figured it was on borrowed time. I gotta lift but I'm still going to let my mech who I trust put it it. I got the LS7, flywheel bolts, PP, flywheel, speedbleeder, master and slave.

Better happen now than when I take it to Dayton in August.

If it was a bad slave that was squealing, wouldn't it increase or decrease (noise wise) with speeed?

im having a squeel too... clutch was pulled and checked and everything looked good still...my squeel only comes when starting to move in 1st gear...no noises in between gears

EDIT: to be more specific there is no noise when just stepping on the clutch it only has makes this squeel as im letting out and engauging the clutch from a stop in 1st gear... what coud this be? its a textralia clutch and like i said i pulled it and its still got plenty life left???

Well if it only squeals when you let off the clutch in first gear then its most likely the clutch getting glazed a little bit from daily driving it. My Monster 3 doest it too and I am sure other puck style clutches are the same way. Not too familiar with the textralia but it sounds like its the same. Try going out and beating on it a little bit. I know my Monster likes to be beat on and the noise will go away after some hard pulls, and then it will come back after awhile. Just my .02

You guys are getting confused. There are two types of squealing going on. One from an agresive cluth squealing when it engages and one from a failing throwout bearing and they will happen at different times. Obviously one only when the clutch is engaging, the other can be sporadic but in my experiance, only squeal with no pressure on the pedal and it doesn't matter if you are rolling, in gear, sitting at idle. As long as the clutch is out it will squeal.
