We were just informed by our landlord that our cars need to be moved ASAP, as they're going to be falling trees in our backyard this weekend. The only problem is, I pulled my motor out to do a rebuild, so the car is sitting there with the transmission half hanging out, supported by a big block of wood. Is there ANY way to strap the transmission up so we can roll the car across the yard?!

It would probably be easier and less time consuming to just take the trans the rest of the way out. If the motor is out all you have left is driveshaft torque arm and crossmember

if the bell housing is still on the trans, just put some bolts in the top and get a chain or a rope and hang it from something couldn't be that hard

No can do, it's just myself and my boyfriend, I don't think we can move the trans by ourselves.

yes you can lol, just get a good floor jack strip it down and slide it out with it..easy as apple pie

tell your boyfriend to get under there and be somebody They are not that heavy I have removed (easy) and installed (not so easy) 4l60e's by myself a couple different times. If you are on grass just put a large piece of cardboard underneath and drag it out on the cardboard after you drop it. Done.

Ok, I'll give that a go. Any idea how heavy the trans is? I might be removing it by myself, and I'm little!

I have held many transmissions in place with the engine out with just a chain rope or whatever. Find something that can hold the weight of the transmission with the crossmember still in place the weight the chain will be holding isn't much. But you need the tie point to be stable and secure since it will get jolted as you push the car across the yard.

It won't take long to attach the chain once you determine a place to tie to. Take the torque convertor off if it isn't already. Worst case you can run two bolts with big washers (on both sides) into the firewall, but I bet you can find something substantial enough to hold it.

I have put a long prybar across the subframe and put a couple bolts in the bellhousing to rest on the prybar.

Hey:

A 3' chain with hooks works just fine, or a heavy strap or rope. No need to get that tranny fluid everywhere, just leave it and support it real good.
