Default OEWHEELS....question about widening there rims

If I buy one of their replica rim sets of 4, and I get two 18x10.5 deep dish type rims..........

If I have two 12" rims as donars can their 18x10.5 rims be widened using those donar rims?

Will the offset be ok...or will they stick way out past the wheel wells?

I am putting on 335 tires, maybe 345 if it works out.

Thanks.

Im intrested in this as well... Its crossed my mind to get the 10.5 and have them widend to 11.5 or 12 so that i can run a 335/30/18 DR on there!

Well, any rim can be widened with a donar rim.....so after thinking about it, I guess if I widened one of their rims most of the extra tire width would be to the inside, not hanging outside the fender well. It would certainly take alot of banging on the inner wheel well, which is totally doable.

I had to bang my inner wheel wells just a few taps when I put my 315/35/17's on my factory 17x9's 8 years ago. When I went around a hard turn it would rub a little bit, nothing bad though. After the banging, it wouldn't rub no matter how hard I turned.

So if I have to bang it another 1.5 - 2 inches to fit 18 x 11's or 18 x 12's to fit 335 or even 345's, I think that would be pretty easy to do. Also, if it needs to be moved outward just a little bit, a spacer will do the trick.

I mainly need new rims because my original 1998 WS6 rims are toast, no way to repair them to a nice shine. So I figured I'd get wider rims and the wider 335/345 tires I always wanted.

Honestly your best move on this would be to do it right. Slap a mini-tub in there & just send the wheels you want widened to http://www.wheelsamerica.com/

Fitment wont change from hub out toward face but i'd bet thumpin the inner fender in more than whats usually required on some 11" wheels might not be a good idea. I'd just mini-tub it and be done, no more clearance issues at all.

Whats a mini-tub cost and what does it actually change/alter?

You can buy a mini-tub kit. Basically you need to cut out a section of your inner fender inside your trunk. Fit the mini-tub pieces up to it & weld them in.

All it does is widen your wheel well in toward the center of the car to allow larger wheel/tire fitment.

For example alot of show cars you see with super deep dish wheels have a narrowed rear end & are tubbed, hence them being able to tuck inside the fenders.

You will however need to be aware of the LCA locations. You dont want to get into narrowing your rear & moving the LCA mouhts just to fit wheels unless you really wanna invest some money into this.

I was gonna get these rims and do what this member did. Send my Strange 12 bolt back to Strange and have them cut 3 inches of each end of my rear, and put in new axles. $600.00 IIRC. Then get these exact rims, just in chrome and red anodized lips, which are friggin expensive.

I figured if I can do it cheaper by widening some replicas I would.

So, where do I get these mini-tub kits and whats the general cost for a 98-02 F-Body?

Thanks.

The added material will be on the back of the wheel. Meaning, your wheel will get deeper, while the outside stays the same. I have a set of 17x9s that were widened to 11" and i ran a 1" spacer to move the wheel out for clearance. https://ls1tech.com/forums/wheels-ti...pics-here.html

A mini tub will definitly give you more than enough room to clear just about any tire, depending on the size you choose, and how far you relocate your LCAs. If im not mistaken, UMI has offset mounts for the Rod/Rod LCAs as well.. as for the narrowing of the rearend, it wouldnt be a good idea until you can pick up a set of wheels in the correct specs to fit.
