M6 Swap guys - cutting a hole for the shifter?
How are you guys going about doing this?
This thread has a great idea but I dont have the ability right now to get a donor M6 tunel cap like whislter did. - https://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-tr...ealtime-3.html

I've done it enough times to know you should use a sawzall. If you use any kind of cutoff wheel you risk lighting the carpet on fire. Its very hard to put out.
Also, the support for the automatic shifter is like 55 times harder than the body of the car itself - go figure.
If you want a step by step, basically I mounted the transmission fully, put the crossmember up, and then used a hammer and punch to put a dent at each corner of where the shifter base would be. Starts at the hole for the shift cable, then cut that one out connecting the points you made, and trim it bigger after you have that basic cut out. That way you don't get too big for the #6 boot, but also not small enough that the shifter can hit the tunnel if it torques a lot. I ended up with about 3/8 inch clearance all around which worked fine with factory rubbed mounts, and obviously would be fine with poly or solid mounts.

All I did was put machinist dye on the ridge of the 6 speed shifter boot and pressed it onto the transimission hump as a template. Drilled holes in the corners and cut it out with a jig saw. Worked like a charm
