Default how do i know if my firebird has a tune on it!!

I bought a tuner today and tried to tune my car. unfortunately it came up with an error code. "no communication error call 1-888-842-xxxx" I called the number, and the tech tells me you only get that code if the car has a tune already installed and the computer is locked. how do i find out if there is a tune on it and from who? and is it possible to remove it without that information? not sure if that is such a wise idea.. but, i want to be able to retune the car when i change the gears, or tires, and so on. $500 bucks to have a shop retune it everytime I swap gears or tires can get expensive quickly

If you want it unlocked, and dont know who locked it, just send it over to us and ill unlock it and put it back to stock for you so you can set up to your mods with the handheld.

Should only cost $35 and $13 for return shipping.

I have had a similar issue with a tuner locked pcm with hp tuners. No communication though could be a fuse issue to your dlc. does it scan correct? if so then it could be a locked pcm but from my exerience the locked pcm will be shitty about getting scanned even. You can have a locked pcm reflashed at the dealer or I used napa then license it after they reflash it to stock. worked for me but I would be sure you have good power and ground to your dlc before reflashing the pcm/

I have never seen a locked computer that would not scan correctly. You also can't go to NAPA or the GM dealer and have a stock calibration put in it. That is the problem I have with the way they lock them. If you had NAPA program it, it was not locked with HPTuners or EFILive.

the pcm texas speed tuned I could not scan. It always denied my security access codes. They said it was not locked but hp tunrers themselves said that all means the pcm has been locked out, May have been a fluke error or something.

Before you get all excited, check cig lighter for power.
Even a locked PCM should give you something besides
"no communication" at all.

The scan tool won't even power up if that fuse is blown.

but you would be able to open your hp tuners and try to rewrite the pcm. When you would try it would say no communication.

I'm afraid you are mistaken. Blown fuse means the HPTuners cable interface won't power up either. You would get a message "Interface nou found, check for power to the ALDL" probably not the exact words, but close. Any scanner, code reader, hand held programmer or tuning software cable has to have power to that port. A hand held scan tool or programmer would not power up to give you any message.

yeah you should get something how long was the key on before you tried reading it you should wait like ten seconds before you try to do anything after you turn the key on. the only time i have ever gotten anything remotely to that with HP Tuners is when i didnt have it plugged in right.
