Got $2000 need better ET
I have a 98 Pontiac Formula Firebird that I am starting to drag race on a pretty consistent basis. In 1/4 mile, with current setup (stock with bolt ons) I am running consistently 13.4 @ 103 MPH. I want to hit 11.50 (right before roll bar is required) since I don't want to total the interior of my car. I sold some toys and have $2000 cash to put into the motor. What would you do with 2000 to make the most power? I only have 2 rules, it has to run on pump gas, and no nitrous. I live in a small town and getting racing fuel or NO2 is a 100 mile drive.
Current setup:
Stock LS1,
4L60E transmission
3.73 gears
auburn gear differential
WS6 clone suspension
SLP lid
Exhaust cutout with high flow cats
160 deg thermostat
other free mods
nitto drag radials (getting new tires next year, not a fan)
thanks for the help !

stall, headers and some suspension goodies would be right in your budget. and would easily bring you down to some nice low 12s.
after that, save up about another 1000 to 1500 and go cam only. easy 11s on some tires that hook

I'd agree with the guys above who recommend stall/cooler, headers, and then suspension and tires!

Well you'll need a big cam like a ms3 with supporting mods and gaskets, a converter like a yank ss3600/4000, headers, ls6 intake, ported stock throttle body for $50, and a tune. That should break into the 11's and if you could find parts like the converter used then it should cost about $2000.
Edit: forgot to stress a trans cooler with the converter otherwise you'll need a $2000 built tranny fairly quickly. Also stay away from a FAST 90-92-ect intake. For stock cubes the LS6 intake manifold is more than enough and doesn't cost half your budget like the FAST.

When you say suspension do you mean drag racing springs and shocks or upgrading the rear link components? Everything else is great info! I will definatly do the converter and headers, but I will need to do some research on a good cam for strip/street use.

Oops, I skipped the LS6 intake or assumed it was listed...I agree with that one too!
