Changed my intake gasket and will not idle????
I changed my intake gasket and the car will not idle unless you hold it at about 1500 rpms and then it is horrible. Also the cat is smoking horribly!! Could my cat be completely clogged? It is the original with 138,000 miles? Could this be the reason my intake started leaking, it is surging, it is bucking and missing at low end? I removed my egr and it is worse ( I think because I removed the exhaust tube)?? Any Ideas?????

It is a 1994 Formula M6. It was pouring oil out the back, missing, surging and bucking like a bronk. No Mods, just a late 94 LT1. After changing the gasket and verifing all vacuum, it will not run at idle and sounds like crap. After running it to warm it up the cat is smoking horribly so I shut it down and took temps. Front of cat was 300, center 700 and rear 400.

youi may have an intake gasket leak from improper install, and oil could be getting into the intake or exhaust and causing the smoke. you need to start from the begining and go from there, nmake sure everything is plugged in and routed correctly. if you think its the cat then pull the pipe and run the car. i would think its more of improped gasket install more than anything else myself i have seen it a ton of time at the dealer.

You need to check for a intake manifold vacuum leak. Guys like using different methods to do that, like an UNLIT propane torch, spray carb cleaner, smoke, etc.
I simply use water from my garden hose. Where ever the water gets sucked in the engine will change in how it's running and you may even see white smoke (steam) coming out of the muffler.

Thats a fatal code. You have an opti going bad, or the wiring to it. Check the connector on the manifold, its an extension down to the opti and is a known problem child. Make sure you're completely plugged in down at the opti. Try some electromotive cleaner from autozone on the connections.

Also since you took the EGR, did you plug the EGR ports at the exhaust and intake?
