Default Need a new starter

So my replacement remanned starter from pepboys croaked officially. Looking at a starter for a stock car. Anyone have a suggestion as to which one to buy? I dont need anything crazy just a basic replacement starter

You can always go with the LT4 starter (p/n 10455709).

But if all you need is a basic replacement starter, I would just go with a reman from a parts store again.

Thats the thing. This unit lasted less then a year as it was replaced October 9th of 09!!

My last reman. starter lasted 7 years and I got it from Advance. I then replaced it with Jegs part number 555-10001. Not sure if it will fit a stockish application though (exhaust clearance might be an issue).

Your best option is going to be (in order) the LT4 starter, a stock starter, or take a gamble with a reman unit. Did your last starter have a warranty?

are the corvette starters basically the same as an LT4 starter?

I took one off a LT1 vette a while ago and it was half the size and weight of a f-body starter

I LOVE my LT4 starter. Its lighter and much smaller as stated above. It sounds much cooler too. And its a direct fit and cheaper if you can believe that. I wouldnt go any other way.

I run a PowerMaster lightweight starter meant for cranking high-compression motors. I paid $165 iirc 3years ago. No issues so far. An LT1 block is just like an SBC where the starter goes. Just as long as you get one for the correct number of flywheel teeth.

How much are they charging you for a stock replacement starter at your local auto parts store?
