thinking of a ls2 swap for my 99ss m6 advice needed
Ok I have a 99ss, I was thinking of maybe swaping to a ls2,my ls1 runs great but has close to 130000 miles on it. I have seen complete ls2 go for sale on here for decent prices,is this swap easy, can I reuse the ls1 pcm? And if I need parts does someone make a conversion kit for the swap, I haven't done much research on this,I kinda wanted to get some advice from you guys. Any info is much appreciated, thank you and GOd bless

130,000 isn't too terribly much as long as the car has been maintained. I've been putting cams in cars lately with that much or more mileage on them.
When it comes time, it will be MUCH more cost effective for you to redo the LS1 or drop in a fresh LS1 motor. In terms of power you can make as much power with a properly built LS1 as you can an LS2, without any of the hassle of trying to purchase an LS2 and swap it over.

Getting an LS1 to LS2 power levels requires full bolts ons, if you want more power than an LS2, you'll need a cam and possibly heads.
The bottom line is, every mod you do to an LS1 will make more power and have better driveability with an LS2.
The engine is the same physical dimensions, what is needed is to swap over the throttle body to a cable unit, get a converter for the crank wheel (58x to 24x converter) and possibly get a couple adapter harnesses. Then you would just have to have someone tune your computer for the new engine, and you should basically be good to go.

How much should I pay for one looking for one ,I have full bolt ons and a cam on my ls1 now,I just figured with winter coming up it would be a good project, like I said car runs good now but I figured I can start looking and when I come across the right deal ill jump on it. I'm sending my trans out to get rbuilt over winter so why not drop in a ls2 at least I should have no issues next year lol

the 4th gen motor require u to get some work done on ur harness i believe because of the knock sensors.. i would go with a truck iron 6.0 buy a stroker kit for it .. ls3 top end .. should make some good power and its not too pricey

You could always get the HKE bottom end 408 iron LS1 for $3850 ready to go. If you wanted aluminum Ls2 I think it is another grand but comes with a better rotating assembly too.
Then some new stock L92 heads on there for $750 with a FAST 102mm setup for $7-800 used and you might meet your goal of $7000 if you already have a 1-3/4 or 1-7/8 free flowing exhaust and taking all the accessories off your LS1.

Camz that sounds good, I think I'm gonna keep my eye out for a lil bit to see if a ls2 pops up on here, and do some treasure hunting, what are the cost of rebuilding my ls1,and what can they do with it to make more power,I'm new to ls cars I've learned a lot in the past 2 years but still a noob when it comes to internals and things of that nature, good advice so far, that's what is great about this website, you can learn more by asking a few people questions then by reading books and mags, thank you guys and god bless ya all.
