Default What would you do? MS4 or MS3 w/heads

I have 2 options here... cant make up my mind..

It will be combined with a tci 3500-3800 stall, in a 02 SS

Should i go MS4 or

MS3, with stg 2.5 5.3 heads

The guy i may buy the ms4 made 401 on motor, cam only and same mods as me.

Guy with a 6.0 GTO m6 made 430 with the ms3 h/c

Both used, but if i go ms4 i can save over 1k vs what i have to do + pay more for the h/c setup.. and that would bring up the search for ported ls6 heads..

So what do yall suggest..

I drag race the car now and then, and enjoy it.. i know how the ms4 drives and it doesnt bother me. Car has full bolt on's, built trans and other small stuff here and there..

So what do yall suggest..

Thanks

Its whatever you want to have done to your car. Im a fan of the 2.5 5.3 heads and havent heard any complaints on the ms3 so I like that package. I think with a built trans and full bolt ons the ms3 package would scoot but that would be my choice of the two.

If you can afford it go ahead and get the heads too. I was going to do a H/C swap and at the last minute decided to just do a cam swap to save money. Thanks to that I can add on the price of another tune when ever I do decide to swap the heads.

430 is NOT impressive for a H&C combo....
It's all about what you want and your goals. You can't spin that 4Lshitty like we do with out 6sp. keep that in mind. We can spin to 7200 with big cams, however that auto will not last long or shift doing that. A smaller custom cam might be better for you Sarge.
With love, the 6sp Z28 that scared you at the track THE cam only car.

On a budget you can't beat TEA LS6 2.5 heads and a custom cam IMO. For a budget.

I would go with the ms3 and 5.3 heads if the heads were set up for running a ms3.this combo will make more power every where and be quicker...check you ptv clearance.

It would be really nice to do the heads at the same time, let it breath better and only need to tune once (as mentioned above) Ive got a mailorder tune on my MS3, it gets the job done for now, but ill wait to spend the coin on a good dyno tune once I tear it back down again for a set of heads (now i wish I had waited till I had heads) A lot of guys seem to get decent results from that MS3/5.3 heads package you're looking at

I just ordered my MS3 and I'm about to order these heads from WS6 store i think.
http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...oducts_id=1600

Can anyone recommend a head gasket thickness and push rod length with 1.7 Rockers? I'll check it all before I start the car but it seem like this combo is popular enough that someone should be able to say what they used and what worked.

Sorry to thread jack but I'm trying to not have to wait a week once I get the heads bolted down and the length checked to start the car. I'd like to order everything at once and check it to make sure but to go ahead and be able to drop the push rods in the motor too. Thanks.

I wouldn't run an MS3/4 unless I was spinning to 7k. A 4L60e will only do that a couple times before

I think you will find more times than not thats what "most" H/C/I cars make.

I wouldn't go MS4 unless you like spinning it really high and not having any toruqe.

I am putting this same setup in my car. all the info and peoples inputs most of them said to do the ms3. one guy on here made 493 with that package. But i have a m6 so you might take into consideration on all these people talking about high revs never had an automatic so i dont know. what size chamber are you going with the heads? What intake are you going to be using. depending on what intake u us u might not get the real cfms out of your heads with that big lift. some guys were saying with the 113 lsa kicking in around 3500 maybe to use like a 4.10 or 4.56 gear to get here going off the line and to make up for the 3500 and below.

as the guys said before this is a good nitrous cam. The guy i bought the cam from had this in there and a valvetrain package stock heads and a 250 shot of nitrous and he said he ran high 9s but i dont know how long that might last & and rear end.
