Spark Plug Discussion.....serious motor guys come on in
Ok heres a quick rundown of the motor......
its a 385 ci LT1
13.9:1 CR
260/264 .703/.715 106LSA SR Cam
AI 215cc cnc TFS heads
Single Plane Victor E
peak power at 7450rpm
peak torque at 6050rpm
flat power out to 8000rpm
ignition
FAST XFI
MSD 7AL-2
MSD HVC Coil
MSD Crank Trigger
Currently I am running NGK BR7EF plugs and the car runs well, it drives around well with out any issues and makes good power at WOT. However as you all know the BR7EF is a standard tip plug. I bought a set of projected tip plugs to try in the motor. Now knowing that the projected tip is more prone to heat and detonation I went a heat range cooler. They are TR8IX's from NGK. Currently my plug has marks up the first 2-3 threads which from what i understand means the heat range is appropriate. And also my timing mark on the ground strap looks good. It looks as though it is running well......but in the search for more power what do you guys think? Anyone have experience with experementing like this or any info they can add? Trying to learn here and experement for more power!!! Every little bit helps at this point lol...

that head calls for a gasketed-seat .750 reach plug, you're running a tapered seat .708 reach in there now Motor may or may not be picky about the (non)projected tip, wouldn't be too hard to swap at the track for a good comparison. Only way I see a projected tip plug helping is keeping the plugs cleaner on the street, or if your timing was too conservative on the non-projected plug. A more head-specific situation would be the projected tip protruding too far into the incoming air/fuel mixture (doubt it in this case), but I'm sure Ai could give you guidance there.

If only flow #'s were what determined how a head worked or its output potential.
Still, we do put the info up to minimize the time spent answering the inevitable "but what does it flow?!" questions. Pics/Info:

Every one of those cam specs is inaccurate. However, that is fine by us, we prefer to not have them posted since like flow #'s the commonly stated specs etc. don't describe enough to do more than foster misconceptions.
There are many fuels available that will run in a setup like this - regardless of cam grind. Mike probably runs normal readily available race fuel in the 104-112MO range like C12, but you should be able to run E85 pump fuel if so inclined. With our port/chamber designs and other work to attempt to make it easier for our customers to mitigate the possibility of oil intrusion, we have never had issues running 12:1 on 91-93 octane pump fuel. If you have a lesser head (in regard to VE/power/Cylinder pressure) then the static CR can be pushed even higher, although it isn't worth doing for most guys in our experience.

and yea phil i've been running 112 in the car...........im thinking of trying e85 this year but idk...........also as for the spark plug thing i tried a few plugs and neither of them made any noticable difference.......i stayed with the standard tip 7 series plug.......works great and its cheap!!!
