Default Stock radio connections

Does anyone know if the stock Monsoon has any input connections? I'm looking for either RCA's or maybe some connector off the CD chager hookup that will give me inputs to wire in an Ipod. If not I will do an FM mod.

Thanks, Justin

As far as I know they do...I know they have an auxilliary button on the front, which all of them have because I believe they use this to hook in a 6 disc changer, so you should be able to use that same input for your ipod. Somebody correct me if Im wrong.

you need an adapter, to use the 12 disc to get normal inputs.

there is a thread on www.ls1.com about what is needed.

Ryan.

Does anyone know which adapter this is?

I have an '02 SS with all stock stereo stuff (including the 12-disc changer) and I'd like to be able to hook up the ipod.

I've searched a few threads, but haven't found a definitive answer on this.

Thanks!

IF you hook up an Ipod, why would you need the 12 CD changer? Conversely, if you have the CD changer, why do you need the Ipod?

Well, I guess that brings my question to:

Can I hook up the ipod INSTEAD of the cd changer? I have no idea how the CD changer outputs to the head unit - does it work by RCA audio cables?

Ummm. GM would never make it that easy. No RCA's or any other standard interface, that I know of.

There MAY be adaptor kits to use the changer inputs. That is IF it is even possible to interface a 3rd party device with it.

I wish you luck.

There are a number of different adapters that will allow connecting an auxiliary source (satellite radio, iPod, etc.) using the CD changer port on the back of the stock radio. The most popular one is the GM9-AUX by PIE. On 01 and 02 models you can keep your stock 12-disc changer and still plug in the auxiliary source. On earlier models you have to disconnect the changer in order to use the auxiliary input because the head units weren't capable of controlling more than one external source.

There are also a few iPod specific adapters that go beyond just providing auxiliary input. These adapters are generally more expensive but they have more features. They include such features as power to recharge the iPod's battery and the ability to use the radio and steering wheel controls to change tracks. PIE makes the ipod2car adapter and Neo Car Audio makes their Neo iOn.

The PAC adapter requires you to have the CD changer hooked up and working in order to get the AUX inputs to work. The latest one has 2 sets of RCA inputs and a toggle switch to switch between them. The problem is I don't have a CD changer and would need it to have the aux inputs. I'll probably have to go with an FM modulator since I dont' really want or need a changer.

Then the PIE adapter is the one for you... the instructions specifically state that any external CD changer must be disconnected before their ipod2car (or aux2car) adapter will work.

You have a website for the PIE adapter? Not sure what PIE stands for to search for it.

I bought this one(from this seller) and it works perfectly. You need the AB-GM9 harness which he includes.

That's for an iPod. I'm looking for RCA inputs to hook my XM Roady2 to. The adapter I've seen for that requires you to have the CD changer in order to work.

Try this web page for a description: http://peripheralelectronics.com/web/aux2car.asp. They don't sell online but there is a dealer locator on their site.

OK...that looks like it's the same box just different output cable. I didn't notice a replaceable cable on the ebay link. I think that's what I'm gonna need.

Thanks - awesome info! The only problem, unless I'm missing something, is that you can't use both the CD changer and the iPod.

I know it might be kind of pointless to have the CD changer when you have the iPod, but it would be nice to be able to use both if you needed . . .

You could use the PXGM9 adapter on the PIE site. It isn't iPod specific (just auxiliary input) but it provides two sets of RCA auxiliary inputs while retaining the factory CD changer.
