High Mileage Lt1?

High Mileage Lt1?
Hello,
I have been in to third gens for a while and have decided to jump into fourth gens. A guy near me is selling a 96 Z with a T56. The body and interior of the car are in good shape, and the engine runs smooth. However, the car has 190k on it. This car wont be anything near my daily driver, so I can deal with mechanical issues, but I dont want it to be a constant hassle. He is asking around 3k, but I would definitely offer less.
How much of a problem would buying a car with 190k on it be? Thanks!

1) Buy it as cheap as you can (maybe $2200.00?)
2) start doing bolt ons and drivetrain beef-up
3) start saving for a rebuild
4) if you want to do heads /cam /valvetrain /supporting mods, start saving for that as well
5) have fun through the whole process & ask questions before you spend money.

bought mine with a 180,000 miles on it and paid 2000 dollers for it have not had many problems out of it at all. as soon as i got it changed all the fluids and done a tune up and put a new cap and rotor on it just to make sure have a 192,000 on it now and runs great.

I think my lt1 just hit the 190k mark too. Check for hoses and for any leaks AFTER you take it for a test drive. That way, all the liquids are warm and flow a little more freely and they have more of a chance to leak. But if you have no problem with the mechanical stuff i would just check for the body. Make sure its everything you want (example: t-tops, M6, color you want, etc). Im guessing its gonna be a project car?

I have well over 220 miles on mine or 356kms however you want to look at it. My car still runs awesome times for what it is and has never let me down or making any noises. Like whats been said if its been well cared for it will last a very long time. Im actually pulling mine this year not because its tired but im going with a forged bottom and adding significant amount power. Im sure someone else will buy it and it will keep running for a long time.

Bought mine @ 176,000miles for $ 2300 bucks in feb.2010 and have done all the work listed in my signature since then replacing wore out stock parts with performance parts from ebay ,all from most of the sponsors here ...and still have less than $4,000 in my Sports Car (Total) tuned ....future plans include paint , stripping under carriage and painting reassembling ,new interior , and H/c
I want it looking like one of those Barrett Jackson auction cars or close anyhow
"Pristine Garage/track/street Queen" one day ,And when my son starts to take interest, maybe I'll throw him the keys

Thanks for all the replies, they have definitely built up my faith in high mileage lt1s.
From the ad and talking to the owner, the car sounds as if it was well cared for. He told me he has all of the receipts for the maintenance, etc.
This car will definitely be a project. I have a DD, so this will be a weekend only car, and it won't be a big deal if it is off the road for a couple of weeks.

Well, I saw the car this morning, and while the body was in good shape, the car definitely showed that it had almost 200000 miles on it. It vibrated terribly, and it was out of inspection and had the ses light so it would definitely need work before it would pass...just going to keep looking, I am definitely not it a hurry to find something that is less than what I want.

I just bought a 121k 95 TA, drove it for less than 100 miles after putting $1500(clutch, opti, etc) into it and it looks like I spun a rod bearing....so they can be hit or miss.
