Default Header paint/coating question

I know ceramic coated is better but does it really matter if it's just the black painted headers other than keeping heat down? What if I got the black painted ones and sprayed over em with some high temp bbq paint or just high temp paint? same effect? I want some Hooker Longtubes but dont want to have to spend the extra $120 on ceramic coated if I dont have to.

Paint won't do anything to keep underhood temps down. Aside from that, there won't be much difference - the painted headers may rust out sooner.

I would go ceramic... nothing worse then spending $400 on headers and having them all rusted out 6 months down the road...

Paint or coating? I have uncoated SS Kooks....Only had them for about 2 months now, but no problems yet. I chose not to coat because I was afraid of scraping them during install, and that expensive coating can just go out the window, at that point.

If you are reffering to coating, it should easily last 5-6 years.

I originally had coated headers then went to Kooks but the rise in under hood temperature was very noticeable so when I was having a rebuild done I had them coated. It made alot of difference in the under hood temps.

As the others said get them coated. It makes a big difference on underhood temps.

As a side note for those getting headers coated you can get a couple of different colors that I am aware of. One is black and the other is titanium. Then of course the mostly seen silver/chrome look. There could be others I am not aware of.
