Default Questions on installing return type fuel system

First off thanks in advance for your help.

I have twin Walbros and plan on going with a return type system 8an feed with 6an return.

1st. What do you have to do to install the lines on the top of the fuel bucket/lid?

2nd How do you route your lines and where do you bring them into the engine compartment.

I know just about nothing about hoses and fittings so no answer is to simple.

Looking to buy all the pieces (kit) within the next week or so, just need to get as much info as possible and advice before I buy. It's not a cheap purchase and want to make sure I get as much info as possible and not wish I would have gone a different route.

I have had a few pm's back in forth with a vendor but would like to hear what anyone else has to say or reccomendations.

Check Vettworks. They are just down the road from you in Auburn. That is where I got my LS1 module. The blue fittings are adapters of the slip on to AN fittings.

I just looked at that and I'm confused what the purpose is?

The purpose is, using that adapter there is not any need to have a return line.

I guess I'm missing the point as well...the factory hard lines are already in that basic configuration, which is what he's trying to eliminate since he wants a regulator up by the rails.

No, the regulator is in the fuel pump module. This set up uses one line to the engine. The fuel is still pressurized with out having to run a return line. This setup is perfect when installing EFI on an earlier car that was not originally equipped with FI. Installing this on a car originally equipped with EFI you would not have to use the return.
If you have the factory hard lines you do not need this modification.
These are more links to installing the LS1 fuel pump module.

I guess I see how it might be helpful to some people, but the original poster wants to eliminate the regulator in the tank and move it up front - the parts you are mentioning will NOT help him accomplish what he wants to do. That's where the disconnect is here.

That's correct, I know alot of people who run the regulator up front, I just want to tap into their knowledge and experience.

The stock regulator is mounted in the fuel pump module. Held in with the silver spring clip.
pry the the spring clip off and remove the regulator.
Mount an adjustable regulator on the fuel rail and connect to the return line.

when you take the internal fpr out do you need to replace it with something? Or can you just leave it like in the 2nd picture?

Yes, just like photo #2. The fuel pressure is controlled by the adjustable regulator on the fuel rail. Then free flow back to the tank.

Thanks, yes I understand you control the fp by a regulator up front, I just didn't know if you removed the internal regulator without replacing it with something if the system would still pump fuel or just leak it out where the regulator was located.

I left nothing in place of the regulator when I took it out in the tank...absolutely no issues.

Here's where I mounted my FPR up front:

I use the factory hardline for the feed to the front, and the EVAP as my return.

Here's a picture of the parts you need to plug the t-fitting where the stock return line goes back to the tank (back by the fuel filter).

The correct parts you need to plug that T-block are:

Russel Part # 648070 (14mm x 1.5 O-ring to -6AN)
-6AN Cap (I used Summit Racing part number SUM-220640N)

5/16" Aeromotive quick connect to -6AN stainless braided hose - this is in the back of the car where the EVAP hard line starts. The -6AN line goes to the top of the tank, where I use a 3/8" push connect fitting that looks very similar to the one shown.

This is the front end of the return - the line shown here is coming from the bottom of the adjustable FPR.
